| Watch out for that hawk! As some of you may know, I live deep in the country. I'm very leary of taking Lexie outside, even on a leash because of some of the critters that roam around on the 10 acres we live on. There's bobcats, racoons, snakes, hawks, hogs, armadillos (not scary) and I'm sure other things I don't even know about. There are 2 hawks we've seen a lot of lately and they are GINORMOUS!! We estimate at least a 6 foot wingspan. OK so yesterday morning I'm out in the yard, without Lexie (thank GOD) and something tells me to look up! Circling over ME is one of these infamous hawks . The BF said he was probably trying to size me up and figure out if I was something he could handle since from up high I probably look tiny. I'm a mere 5 foot. Talk about unsettling. I was wearing a tshirt that is the color orange hunters wear for safety. I don't know if a hawk would even try. I'm not THAT schooled on birds of prey. I would hate to find out though. Can you imagine if he would've tried?!? Scared the tar outta me. I wish those hawks would move, I'm sure Lexie would love to run around outside, but I'm scared even with her on a leash.

| LOL it DID freak me out. I'm still really new to the whole living in the country thing. Let's just say I tucked tail and hurried to the house lol. Now when I've been out today, I find myself looking up in the sky to see if my stalker is there

| oh my be careful, i remeber one time my mom would always take these back roads to go home since there were "no stupid drivers" and one day we seen this huge hawk, bird, eagle thingy bird sitting at the top of a telephone pole, and she pulled over and got out and she walked up to it and looked up at it and it starte dmoving its head like back and forth a little like funny like a chicken and then he started to like move his wings and hiss and make nooises and my mom high tailed it back into the car and took off, but it was the funniest ting then but to think now that they can pick your baby up and take him away or peck him or whetever they do its scary, my grandma lives in the country and she had a litter of wild kittens and we found 3 of them with holes thorugh them, sick like from some kind of jeepres creepersm ovie you wouldt hink and she shes used to it she says oh those damn owls, and birds, im like in shock like omg so please i feel you and be careful

| It's not just in the country. We live in the city, near the lake & we have Bald Eagles, Peregrine Falcons & Red Tail Hawks around here all of the time. Oh and lets not forget the Seagulls (or "winged rats" as one of the reporters for our local paper calls them) A deer ran past the house last week. I didn't see this much wildlife when I lived in the country.

| You don't have to live on acres to have these threatening critters. We live in a little community where our houses are close. We still have hawks, owls, raccoons, skunks, opossums, badgers & mountain lions. We don't let our girls outside even in the fenced yard unless one of us is with them. When a couple of our boys were in Jr. high, they took our Boston over to the grade school to let her run off leash on a very large field. (we always stressed to them never let her off the leash, but they did anyway) It was during the day, but an owl still swooped down trying to get her and the boys running and screaming and waving their arms. The dog at the last minute did a 180 and ran like crazy back toward the boys while the owl just missed getting her. I'm sure the owl would not have been able to lift her up and carry her away, but those talons would have cause some very serious injuries and she could have even died. Keep them on leashes when your out because things can happen so very quickly. |
