| I love my Bernina. I got a model closer to the bottom of the line. It has given me trouble free service for years and years. It does everything I need it to. It is worth the few extra bucks you might pay over something you could buy at a department store.

| check at walmart I have been looking for a machine myself. They have several models at different prices with regular sales. I plan to buy the electronic brother. They all seem to have many stitching options. I just need a simple machine. Thinking about trying out my skills.

| I went to school for upholstrey. The automotive side mind you but I can still sorta sew. Other than online and a few pet stores, there's not much for custom clothes around here and I think there could be a nitch. (If that's what you're looking to do ) I might try my mother in laws and see if it's something I'd like to do. Or if I get bored and give up

| I have a Kenmore. It's probably mid-range. But it jams CONSTANTLY. Don't buy a $99 machine from Walmart - it will only cause you frustration. Spend the $200 a buy a decent one, then you won't need to use as many 4 letter words as I do when you use it. Berninas are good

No Longer a Member | Also, I want to warn everyone to stay away from the internet for purchasing a machine. I am a big internet shopper, so for me to say this, I really mean it. Ebay sewing machines as well as those from a couple of places in Texas, namely sewvacdirect.com (who sells on ebay under several names) has really STIFF return policies. Here's an example for you...buy a machine from Sewvacdirect.com with free shipping and a FREE extended warranty. Even though they say they have a 30 day guarantee, here's what they will dock you if you return it: The original cost of the shipping that you didn't even pay to begin with (plus it costs $30 to send the machine back UPS on top of that!) The cost of the FREE extended warranty that you didn't even pay to begin with (we're talking $25-75, depending on what FREE warranty it comes with). Restocking fee (I think it was 15-20%). If you buy a $400 machine from them, you could be out over $150 by the time you;re done. |

| I've got an "Elnita" by Elna that I got many years ago at a sewing machine store. Don't remember how much it cost, but it couldn't have been too expensive. It's simple, doesn't jam, and I use it a fair amount. Have never had to have it serviced or anything. It's not fancy, but it does all the basic stuff which is all I really need.

| I have a bernina and It sure is very reliable . .have had it for over 15 years. The newer machines these days are just made of junk . . so my advise, is get one that is european or japanese made and highly recommend buying them used because the brand new ones can be pretty expensive. They are quality made and will last a lifetime |
