| Ahhhh....SNAKE!! So we just got back from our nightly walk around the neighborhood about an hour or so ago. The husband and I are on the street, my daughter is beside us on the sidewalk. Suddenly, she takes off running, stops 10 feet away and says, "There was a snake on the sidewalk!" And she is RIGHT! Stretched our along the side of the sidewalk, there is a Cottonmouth, about 1 1/2 feet long! She had stepped just right by it...it could have easily bitten her. Luckily we happened to be right by some friends' house, so my husband managed to get a shovel and we killed it. There have been several killed in our neighborhood over the past few weeks, and I'm not talking about harmless little garden snakes either. How scary is that though for her to have been practically on top of it! We usually have our Basset with us. If we'd been walking her, she would have found it and grabbed it no doubt! I said from now on we are taking our chances and walking in the street! |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | OH LORDY!!! I would have **** my pants! I don't mind snakes...as long as they're on TV or in a cage. If they're out in the great out doors, you'll see nothing but elbows and a**holes and that streak of blur you'll see will be me high tailin' it outta there! Be careful, Misty. Snakes come out when it's too dry and too wet. Speaking of wet...we're suppose to get more rain starting tomorrow...GADS!

| Well they don't scare me, but I don't want to happen up on one like that either! It's pretty dry here...we got rain the past few days though, which brought out tons of frogs...and apparently the creatures that hunt them too! |

| Nope, I do not handle snakes well!! Misty I am glad your daughter didn't get bit! Couple years ago hubby and I were working on a chicken pen and we were inside the building part. The pen was about 50 yards from our house. I heard a noise on the roof and asked what was that? hubby said prolly a tree branch. Well I looked up and this snake was hanging down from the roof eye level with my hubby!! I didn't even stop to see if my hubby was going to get bit I was gone sooo fast...I mean, I was on our back porch and my hubby hadn't come out of the coop yet...finally he steps out and said what are you doing? I said "Runnin!"

| Well I don't know what kind of kamikazee roof snakes you guys have where you are, but you can KEEP them! I'll stick with these...at least I can identify them and they are on the ground here. |

| Last spring I killed about a 4 1/2 foot cottonmouth on my patio. It was stretched across the french door by the fireplace. I went out the other patio door-----in pj's, with a cup of coffee in my hand. Was about to sit down when I saw it. That one scared me! |

| Sadly, I can't tell one snake from the other. A snake is a snake and I don't like any of them!!

No Longer a Member | I hear you hun. When I lived in LA we had cottonmouths and copperheads regularly. One even climbed up into the wheelhousing of our car. Guess they don't like the heat either. Felt like I needed to take a shovel with me just to go out to the mailbox. |

| A cotton mouth and a water moccasin are the same thing. And yes, they are poisonous. |
