| Wondering Do any of you have Pug's? My boyfriend and I have been thinking about getting a playmate for Keely and as much as I would love another Yorkie he wants to get a Pug. So because I got what I wanted I have to be fair and let him get the kind of dog he wants. I will get another yorkie though. What do you think?

| Sorry, I don't have any experience with pugs, but I think they are adorable. Have you googled and checked out their temperment, etc.?

| We had a pug for short time about 7 years ago(had to get rid of it and my Himilayen cat because Dr. thought son was allergic, come to find out he wasn't), we had her for about 5-6 months. I honestly didn't do a lot of research on the breed at the time, but I know they shed a lot, even thought they have short hair. Also they tend to have breathing problems. They are very playful and clownish. Our Chloe was sweet as could be and the house training was going well too. Like your boyfriend, my husband liked the breed, must be a man thing. At first I said no way they are so ugly, but I fell in love with her after we brought her home. I would recommend the breed if someone was interested in it, the only two things that would be a concern would be the shedding(allergy sufferers) and the breathing problems(some never have them). Perfect dog for a man too. Hope it works out for you.

| Thanks, I've done some research on Pugs. I know that they do shed and they can have breathing problems. It must be a man thing. I think they are so ugly they are cute ya know. So will see what happens. Thanks again everyone!

| i have a pug, Lucy, that weighs about 27lbs. I can tell you right now, her play time with my yorkies is limited to when i am sitting right by them. she is not mean, she loves to play but as someone said in a thread about pugs last week, (do a search) pugs are VERY powerful. At times when mine are playing, she runs over my yorkies and rolls them. i am scared to death her paws will break their ribs. Her paws bruise my legs when she is standing on my lap. it scares them to death. She sniffs them and lifts them up off the floor with her nose. She has the run of the house because she is actually my husbands baby. You have to watch them VERY carefully around the yorkies. I would never buy one to be a playmate to a yorkie. Ours is solid black and she does have resp. problems. Can't run more than a few feet when playing in the hot weather . it is really hard on them to be in extreme cold or heat and they fart like you have neever heard before. There are two or three fairly recent threads on here someewhere. i know there is one in Yorkie brothers and sisters. My pictures of Lucy are on here. |

As soon as I read the original post, I thought of that pug at our meetup. He was a booger, wasn't he?? He was running and playing like a little wild thing! Definitely a hoot!

I was going to comment on their powerfulness but since I don't personally have one, I thought I'd leave that to someone with personal experience. My grandparents had one years ago but I never really saw her react with other dogs. They are just a bundle of muscles though so I imagine they can get the best of smaller dogs. Maybe it's not so much that they are bigger or weigh more than most Yorkies but it's the stamina that they have when they are running and playing. The one at the dog park that we saw was just crazy! Good luck with whatever ya'll decide.

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | I have a Pug and her name is Lexie Lynne. She's 8 years old and has never been sick all her life She snores, farts, and LOVES to eat. (you have to be careful as they are prone to be over weight) She was my first baby and is pretty spoiled and doesn't give the others the time of day. She follows me EVERYWHERE. She's my little clone BIG time lap dog. She does shed. I love her to death! |

| I have owned two pugs over the last 11 years. My best friend also has two pugs. They are great dogs with wonderful personalities. I do find that they are very crazy and wild as puppies (more so then other breeds) but they grow out of it. I had a fawn pug (R.I.P..he had brain cancer) and I have a 6 yr old black pug (Dakota) they are both very mellow adults. Dakota will be the last pug I own due to his shedding and my sons allergies. But I give pugs !! |
