| Purple People We have been having severe thunderstorms here tonight along with tornado warning, but now it's a tornado watch. I don't know if lightening hit the house or what, but it was like earthshaking and scared me half to death. Well, since that happened, the TV in my studio/computer room has purple people! It's lost it's color...purple lips too. Do you think it fried? I just turned on the computer to see if it works and thank goodness it is okay! Wonder if there's any hope for the TV. Through all of this, Maddie has been as calm as a cucumber! I'm so glad that she doesn't get scared like I do! Anyone know anything about my TV problem? I'm thinking the surge protector probably saved the computer...the TV was just plugged into an outlet. |

| Seeing I used to be from Minnesota and also experienced those sort of storms I would say it was a power surge also. I learned the hard way one year when I lost basically every electical appliance I owned including my computer, but thankfully my insurance covered it so you may want to check that option out if your deductable isn't higher than it's value? I am glad that your baby wasn't affected by the storms! I have a daughter up there in Fargo so I hope that things didn't get too wild up there?

| Tv Your TV can be fixed by a repairman or anyone familiar with electronics that has the right tool (a CRT Degausser), but some will charge a bit for the procedure. It is called Degaussing and basically it is demagnetizing the TV. It shouldn't cost more than about $20 - 25 to get it done, but some repair places around my area charge close to $100, so depending on what they want to charge you, it may depend on the size of the TV whether you want to fix it or get it replaced. I would call the TV repair shops, especially the smaller, mom and pop shops nearby and ask what they charge for Degaussing and decide then whether it is cost effective. I was lucky to find a man in the yellow pages who fixed electronics out of his home and he degaussed one of my TVs for only $20. Hopefully you will find someone who can do the same.

| Thanks for all the tips! That would be great if I could find someone to fix it for $20! A degausser, huh? That makes sense. I know my old computer monitor had a degausser on it...don't know about this new one. I will have to do some checking. I would like to get it fixed...it's only about a year old and has the vcr in it. That storm was something else last night. Winds got high and we got between 2-5 inches of rain...I haven't heard what ours is yet. I'm so glad there wasn't any hail! |
