| It was predicted I watched an intereview yesterday with one of the Columbine students and his father. The young mans sister was one of the victims killed at that shooting, this young man was very articulate and one of the things he stressed was how the VT tragedy is constantly being talked about as the biggest shooting in history, and the constant coverage about the killer. His point was this can cause more tragedy because of the competitive nature of other psychopaths withl issues of whatever kind to try to beat this "record" of human carnage. I'm seeing this type of behavior in the news coverage today by all the school lock downs and threats being made. You can't disregard these as non-issues, and what must this be doing to the children in these schools. I don't have a child in school but my heart breaks for the parents, friends and faculty of VT. My thoughts and prayers are with them, but they are also with all parents who are trying to help their children make sense of a senseless deed and deal with the fear and after effects of this tragedy. |

| I agree the media frenzy has gotten ridiculous. The shooter even mailed a package to NBC in the middle of the two killings with pics, video, and a rambling manifesto. He knew that his image would be plastered all over the news and would "go down in history" so to speak among other mass murderers like the Columbine shooters. There really is a fine line in the media between reporting the facts and glorifying these psychos.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | That's true ....but it can also show how it brought people from all over the world together .....the outpouring of outrage and compassion for the victims is powerful. if a psycopath is going to kill people I think serial killers like Bundy, Ramirez, Gacey and such would be what they strive for....these school shooters are cowards (as are ALL killers - don't get me wrong) but the school shooters are using the most lame reasons to kill - whereas the real serial killers actually have forces that drive them to kill over and over....I honestly believe they are mentally ill - where the school shooters are perfectly sane... and the killings are acts of revenge over real or imagined wrongs done to them. I do feel sorry for his family - that boy just plain had evil in his heart but just taking a gun and shooting innocent people is the act of a true coward |

| I completely agree with everything you have said. I was just talkign about this with my hubby. I think that the world needs to know whats going on, but they go into such detail and that does nothing but give the family more grief and give the psychos in this world more ideas. It always seems that when something like this happens things follow shortly in the weeks after. I dont know how many times I've heard just since Monday about other schools getting threats of bombs and shootings and what not. I think the media needs to back off a little bit bc in my opinion all it does is make things worse in more then one way.

| Just in the Detroit area between yesterday and today there were at least a dozen lock downs beceause of threats. It is a very scary world we live in. I do believe the media sensationalized the killers. If they would just not expose anything about them - then maybe they wouldn't get such "glory" however absurd it is and then it might at least slow down.....
