I used the steel wool idea on a coffee table white mark -- Instead of floor wax, I used a little Old English furniture polish -- worked like a charm.

| Before trying the steel wool try ashes (I use incense sticks) and mayonaisse-rub it into the wood. I've used this a couple times on my coffee table where some dolt (me) left a glass.
