| Jury Duty! GRRRRRRRR! Just have to vent, I got jury duty next week. I just DO NOT have time for this, I hate driving downtown and parking, its all a bit scary and I hate having to take a day off from my business too . And nothing makes me madder then when they hand me a $6 check at the end of the day. How in the heck is it that they can force you to do jury duty and pay you $6 a day? $6 doesnt even cover the gas it will take to get to downtown Fort Worth! And it defiently wont make up for an entire day lost that I could have been working. Sorry I had to vent, I dread jury duty like I dread Dentist I better not actually get on a case, I will not return for second day of this crap! Im gonna tell them Im mentally unstable

| I am so sorry that you are not happy about the Jury Duty. Sometimes that "call of duty" comes at the most inconvenient time! Take a small dvd player and play the Willie Nelson Song Beer for My Horses. Here are the lyrics Lyrics Well, a man come on the 6 o'clock news, Said somebody's been shot, somebody's been abused. Somebody blew up a building, somebody stole a car. Somebody got away. somebody didn't get too far, yeah. They didn't get too far. Grandpappy told my pappy: "Back in my day, son, "A man had to answer for the wicked that he done. "Take all the rope in Texas, find a tall oak tree, "Round up all of them bad boys, hang them high in the street, "For all the people to see that: "Justice is the one thing you should always find. "You got to saddle up your boys, "You got to draw a hard line. "When the gunsmoke settles, we'll sing a victory tune. "We'll all meet back at the local saloon, "We'll raise up our glasses against evil forces, "Singing: 'Whiskey for my men, beer for my horses.'" We got too many gangsters doing dirty deeds, Too much corruption, too much crime in the streets. It's time the long arm of the law put a few more in the ground. Send 'em all to their maker and he'll settle 'em down: You can bet he'll settle 'em down 'cause, Justice is the one thing you should always find. You got to saddle up your boys, You got to draw a hard line. When the gunsmoke settles, we'll sing a victory tune. We'll all meet back at the local saloon, We'll raise up our glasses against evil forces, Singing: "Whiskey for my men, beer for my horses." "Whiskey for my men, beer for my horses." You know that justice is the one thing you should always find. You got to saddle up your boys, You got to draw a hard line. When the gunsmoke settles, we'll sing a victory tune. We'll all meet back at the local saloon, We'll raise up our glasses against evil forces, Singin': "Whiskey for my men, beer for my horses." Singin': "Whiskey for my men, beer for my horses." Be sure to sing REALLY loud the part about hanging them high in a tree..... LOL |

I know those feelings exactly!!! I got called to jury duty a lot, but I always got out of it because I had a child under 10 at home. Well, my kids are older now and I didn't have an excuse the last time. I was really mad because like you I own my own business and work from home. If I don't work I don't get paid. I was really mad and hoped I wouldn't be picked. I was in line to talk to the judge to tell him why I couldn't serve when I heard several in front of me with the same excuse, and the judge still wouldn't let them off. So I didn't even try. Well, they got down to the 11th juror and there were still 5 or 6 people in front of me. I thought, great, I am going to get out of this. But for various reasons the others were dismissed and I was chosen as Juror #12! Just my luck! It was a drug trial and lasted about 3 days counting the jury selection. But, you know what? I am really glad I did it. It was very interesting and I really learned a lot about our judicial system, good and bad. Overall, it was really a good experience. So, all I am saying is hopefully you won't be picked, but if you are maybe it won't last long and you might find it more interesting than you anticipated. (just not fun losing out on the money you lose by missing work). And, by the way, I think we got $8 for the jury selection day and $11 for the days spent on the jury, Big whoop, huh?

| I was picked last year for a juror. It was a murder case and lasted 3 weeks. The whole experience, I found to be very interesting and I'm glad I did it. But I am a school teacher and being away from the kids for 3 weeks was hard. I try to never miss. I got paid so much for each mile I drove and so much per day. I got a lot more than $6 a day. |

| I got picked for a jury once (and haven't been called since - KNOCK ON WOOD). It was a murder trial and it was really interesting. I was very upset too, I didn't have time to be there, but in the end it was a good learning experience and I was glad to have been there. But, I don't want to do it again! LOL! KNOCK ON WOOD AGAIN!!!

| I feel for you!! I know it is our "civic duty" but for those of use who are self-employed I really think there should be some kind of special consideration given. Most employers will supplement the difference between the paltry pay they give you versus your regular salary. But, I'm in the same boat. The last time I got called, I had to drive Downtown Detroit, pay $5.00 to park, was there from 8:30am all the way till 3:00pm. I was in the last grouping of people and we were all dismissed as they had filled their quota. It was even more discouraging to do nothing but sit there all day. I did have a few magazines and a book with me, but of course it was on my busiest teaching day and I was out $150.

| I just got my notice that I'm supposed to report for jury duty March 26th at 8 a.m. My husband and I were Illinois residents (Chicago area) and I never got called. As soon as we became Florida residents they sure got my number!!!! Last month I got a jury notice but had a medical procedure and didn't have to go. Now I have another one. I have no excuse this time....but of course I am hoping that I don't get picked. I am an avid Court TV watcher.... but that's different...I'm comfy and at home taking care of my furbaby. |
