| Comp USA stores closing Comp USA is closing over half of its stores over the next 3 months. I am really irritated. I bought a new computer from them a couple of weeks ago and they suckered me into buying a two-year on-site service plan. Someone at corporate had to have known that the closures were in the works. Why would they continue to sell the service plans? What a rip off! I emailed Comp USA to find out what arrangements they are making to honor that service plan or give refunds if they cannot. Of course, no reply yet. I am encouraging anyone with such a plan to visit their local store and demand to get what they paid for or be reimbursed on the spot. I will be doing that myself in a few days. To find out if your local store is on the close list, go to their website www.compusa.com and click on the store locator. If your usual store is not on the list, it is a goner.

| Our CompUSA closed a couple of years ago. Hated that cause we always got good buys there -- great coupons too. Hope they reimburse your service plan. You are right, decisions like that are made well enough in advance, they should not have still been selling the service plans. But I guess they like to keep those things quiet as long as possible. Probably hurts business once they announce it.

I would just like to throw in my 10 cents about best buy here. I bought a large appliance from them about a month and a half ago. It worked 1/2 day, then stopped working. Best buy could not get anybody out to my house to fix it; it was an LG (even though sales person told me over and over before the sale he knew so many people that would be able to fix this model). Long story short, ended up returning the fridge (that took an act of God), best buy has been caught in several lies, has the absolute WORST customer service I have ever seen, seems too not care about the customer after the sale and it is a week today they took it back, STILL have not refunded my credit card. Im sorry to take over this thread, but I see the words best buy and I tend to lose it a little. I just feel I need to warn others. Last edited by mojo; 03-04-2007 at 11:41 AM. Reason: mispell | |

| Fuuuming Mad! FYI, I got my dander up and went back to Comp USA today to demand a refund on my 2 year service plan. I was told they could not do that and that the local service would be assumed by Best Buy "or something". I told them if I wanted a service plan with Best Buy I would have bought my computer from Best Buy. I was told to call 1800CompUsa. (1800-266-7872). So I called the toll free number. In short, I was told I was lied to by my local store. Stores that are closing are not relieved of their responsibility from taking returns or refunding the service plans. In short, the guy told me "You were lied to, the local store just does not want to deal with the return". He told me because my store is closing and the closest store is more than 15 miles away (e.g. 140 miles), my service plan would be upgraded and CompUsa would continue to service it. I will have tech support by phone and if need be, a technician will be dispatched to perform the on-site service. If the technician cannot fix it, a loaner will be sent and my puter will have to be shipped somewhere to be repaired. I was told if I still wanted my plan refunded, I should go back to the store and demand that, and if they refuse, I am to ask them to call customer service (1800CompUSA) in my presence and they will inform them of proper procedure. Unfortunately, the folks at the toll free number have no way to refund my plan by phone and cannot make outbound calls so they cannot call my local store and set them straight. I'm thinking the local media might like this story. Anyway, what are your thoughts? Stay with the upgraded service plan (similar to what Dell and Gateway offer) or demand my refund? So far, my time is worth far more than the $99.99 I paid for the plan.

| oh my, the paper said our local one would not be closing so we were in luck. but my om bought a lg refrigerator from best buy and within one month the self cracked and they told her that she could hang from it (shes 220 pds) and it wouldnt break and we asked them what are you saying shes fat? and he said no an adult could hang from it and it wouldnt break well yeah a gallon of milk sat on it and it broke, the ice maker sounds like its 20 years old and humms all the time and it doesnt even work properly and they wont take it back cause her time is up and oh they dont cover shelfs and stuff because they dont know what or who would have been sitting on it, i was mad and i demanded that she take it back since she had 90 days and she was only in her first month but dad wouldnt do such a thing he said it was his milk that broke it but im like hellllllo thats what a fridge is for isnt it? to put milk and stuff in????? but anyway sorry to rant again but i really dont know what i would do, even with the upgraded plan they still most likely wont day the whole truth to it or the exemptions to it, use your mind and think of what works best for you. sometimes these warranties are crazy, like sears i bought my stove, micro. and dishwasher and fridge there, well i got the warranty on the ffridge but not in the others since the 2 years warranty was 279 dollars for each one. and they would cover all parts, i told them theya re crazy as i only paid 299 each appliance except for the fridge. if i want to pay 279 for 2 years to fix it i might as well pay 299 to buy a new one??? do use your judgement, sometimes people make me so mad.
