| cell experts- need help ASAP As a purely hypothetical question (not related to my other post ) Let's say a cell phone was put through the washing machine. The phone doesn't work but the SIM card still does. When this phone was brought to the Cingular store they suggested that the person call customer service and get insurance then wait 30 days and file a claim. Customer service wants to call the line to verify it is working. If I put the SIM card in my phone so that the call could go through, is there any way they could tell? Hypothetically speaking of course. Thanks! They're calling back at 4:00.

| Nope, if the call comes through, they won't be able to tell it went through the wash. Though, there is a sticker on the back of the phone, near where the SIM card goes in, that becomes RED if it gets wet. That's interesting a Cingular person told you to do this... Good luck! |

| I give up. I am so not cut out for scheming. She called me on my cell so I just let it go to voice mail. The stress isn't worth the money it would take to just buy a new phone. I swear, I've practically made myself sick. I was surprised Cingular told me to do this also. I told them outright it had gone through the wash and that's what they suggested I do. There were two people working and they both said that was what I should do. When we got in the car, my daughter said, isn't that insurance fraud? Yikes, great lesson to teach her.

| Okay, I'm thinking about getting this phone from ebay http://item.express.ebay.com/__Cell-...mdZExpressItem Since it is unlocked, I can just put her SIM in it and all will be back to normal right? No reactivation, same number etc. Sorry I don't know anything about these things.

| Okay, this is sad that I keep answering my own thread but just to conclude my little cell phone drama... My husband called and I told him what all had happened and that I had found a new phone on ebay for $130. He said- Nikki, you were going to sell your integrity for $130 and do it in front of Lauren? Okaaay, when you put it that way. So I ordered the phone. The end

| You are HILARIOUS!!!! I am not expert on cell phones - I have one, but it is not my friend! HA! Meaning, I do not care to have it, I just need it every now and then! I am sure that is MUCH worth it! No more stress and worries! Good luck w/ this one!

Not all Cingular stores are owned by Cingular, I would guess that the one you went to wasn't owned by them, but at least they WERE trying to be helpful. There's usually some strict policies in place for Cingular employees regarding insurance claims. PS. Your daughter is very smart. Last edited by fasteddie; 01-15-2007 at 08:22 PM. | |
