| Cool! I am in the process (well, have been for awhile) on getting a little poodle too. I have asked and talked and searched and have found tons of good things about them - great w/ kids, smart, friendly, etc. I did talk to my vet and she said that she has had to put two to sleep in the last year for something (dang, can't remember), but they were like 2lbs and it was probably something to do w/ the owner (both were owned by the same person)!! I would be interested in hearing input too! Good luck w/ your search! We are looking for a solid black (that stays black, not turns silver) little female - size matters, but it doesn't - we do want one Mojo's size are smaller, so under 5.5lbs.

| I had one as a kid, he was great, don't remember much on the training part as I was a kid, but overall a great friend to me!

| We had a poodle when I was growing up. He was a "miniature", weighed 15 pounds or so, not real sure. After moving away from home after graduation, that was the first thing I did... bought my own poodle. I got a toy poodle (regular weight about 7 pounds). His registered color was "red". Gorgeous baby.... the color of a new copper penny! He was the sweetest, most laid back dog! I know this probably had a lot to do with my personality and my husband's because I have seen that they can be "yippy" dogs too. He was our "first-born" before having kids and the love of my life. Couldn't have asked for a better friend. He did have a slight luxating patella problem that showed up when I was living next to my grandparents. The main problem there was that he stayed with them during the day when I was at work and my grandpa fed him like royalty.... off the table, along with the big dogs... never sticking to the feeding regimen that I would have preferred. When we moved away from there (when Dax was about 2 yrs. old), he weighed about 12 or 14 pounds..... way too much! His knee would pop out of joint occasionally and I learned how to massage it back in. Once I got him on a strict diet and he lost that excess weight, his knee was fine. Poodles have a tendency to have some of the same problems that Yorkies do (healthwise) and like Yorkies, they are all different. So much depends on how you raise them and what your homelife/lifestyle is like. I found training and obedience to be very easy with him too. Supposedly, they are one of the smartest breeds of dogs! We had to put Dax down at the age of 15 when he had a stroke. It was a horrible time for me. Tatum helped ease a lot of the pain but I will ALWAYS remember my "first-born". And Jenn218..... I was originally looking to buy a black one too but then I came across these gorgeous red ones. I was told by a few breeders that it's a little difficult to tell if a black one will stay that way or turn silver. One of the tricks they told me is that if there are any white hairs on the pads of the feet, that's a good sign that they will turn. Don't know how accurate that is but apparently it's not very predictable until they are a little older... maybe 12 weeks or so. Can't really remember what they told me that long ago. But if you're really set on a black one, do some research. And good luck to both of you!

| Cool I want a black or silver so it wont matter however I read that the black or white is easier to train. |

| I had a miniature that was beautiful. Silver and Champagne. His name was Savage. Don't ask me why (probably because I was in High School at the time). People always expected to see this massive dog whenever I called his name. He was extremly smart. They really sense your emotions. He was very easy to potty train, but he was also about 6 months old when I took him from my girlfriend. They were keeping him outside and I couldn't stand it. Keep in mind that they don't get their true color until they mature. Good Luck |

| I've had toy poodles. My 17 yr old just went to heaven last month. Both of my poodles were the best little dogs - one female, one male (not for breeding tho). Both trained very easily, within 2 wks. Neither ever regressed in training unless they were ill. Both learned many tricks and were well-behaved. The boy poodle was a little less tolerant of older children but once introduced, he got along fine with everyone. I spent alot of time with my poodles training them and was very strict with people food and rules. They are very smart and can tell when they can get away with something (just like yorkies). We have lots of skin babies in my family and it is important that the dogs know the people rules. My Princess had trouble with one of her hips (displasia), but surgery corrected that. She lived to 13. Indy had subluxating patellas and always had trouble with his knees going out. We learned to live with it and to help him get back in position. He lived to 17. Of all the furbabies I've had, the toy poodles were the easiest to potty train and learned tricks and rules more quickly and consistently than any others except for Duffy Puppy of Mine's Scarlett, a 3 lb. pomeranian (smart as a whip). They both had skin allergies to grass and both had trouble with their teeth even though I brushed them daily. Keeping their eyes clean is a challenge. All in all, I think I did well having my poodle babies to love and be loved by. |

| I should add that I have rheumatoid arthritis. Indy would wake me in the night to wax or ice my hands by licking my fingers before the swelling would start and before I even realized I was having a flare of the disease. The doctor thought he could smell a change in my body chemistry. He was a special baby. |

The really tiny white ones (don't want to use the "T" word) tend to have more health issues. If I ever can rehome my vicious Yorkie that I got stuck with in Sept., I am getting a Poodle. Enjoy your new addition! | |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | MY grandma had an itty bitty toy poodle for YEARS and she was ahead of her time - she dressed her little dog in coats lol - this was 30 years ago !! Sadly she was attacked by a pitt bull when they were getting out of a car at a friends and my poor grandma was never the same again. Her Toy poodle was the most loyal well behaved little dog....I think poodles are very special dogs |
