| Smashed thumb Okay guys, I have a question! Has anyone ever smashed their fingers before?? A month ago, I closed my car door and didn't pull my thumb out quick enough. It smashed my thumb and hurt so bad I got nauseous! It started bleeding and after a week, my whole thumb was black and bruised and it started spreading down towards my cuticle. I didn't know any better so I didn't go to the doctor nor did I drain the blood with a needle (like I've been reading). Welp, now my nail is starting to come off. This might be a very graphic description, but it looks nasty! I took a shower and the top layer of skin that the scab was under kind of just peeled off and the more showers I take, the end of the nail pops up more! It's hard to describe but in no way would I take a picture of it! (Thats how gross it looks!) The bottom on the nail beneath the cuticle kind of seperated from my actual thumb so when I look between the crevice, I can see the root of my thumb and it looks like it's about to just fall off! I'm trying not to get water in it just to keep the bacteria out. I just wanted to know if this is normal??!! Is this how a nail is supposed to fall off?? Will my cuticle grow back?? EEEK! I'm freakin' out and my boyfriend says its normal. It sure doesn't look normal to me, especially since I can see underneath the root of my thumbnail and I can see where it's growing from! Yuck. |

| My boyfriend smashed his finger under a 300 lb pipe at work once. It was pretty nasty - his finger looked like a cartoon where the finger was all huge & red & throbbing! But it was exactly like you described. It call all black & hard & eventually the nail fell off completely. It grew back & it looks normal now. Don't worry you'll be able to give the thumbs up sign without grossing people out soon enough!!
