| For those looking for healthy habits I got this in a newsletter today and thought I would share! *Eating slowly can mean taking in 200 fewer calories a day *Switch to smaller utensils (you take smaller bites) *Chew your food! (15-20 times) -- wow! *Put down your fork! (in between bites) *Drink, Drink, Drink! (WATER) ----Divide your body weight in half and that is how many ounces of water you should drink each day. *Not liking some of the "health" food out there?? --researchers say it can take up to 15 times before you will warm up to a new taste! *Brain Fog? --just three hours a week of aerobic exercise will help you stay mentally sharp! *Fat Free or Light? --if you find that you do not like the taste of most Fat Free food products, go to the Light versions! - they have the actual food taste and are healthier. *Plain Nonfat Yogurt --don't like the taste (I know I didn't) - mix it w/ vanilla extract, lemon juice, fruit jams, etc for a good taste - also mix half & half w/ mayo for a lighter may - use it in place of sour cream *You should eat the following each day: --10 grams of fruit each day (3 or more pieces) --10 grams of vegies each day (3 or more 1/2 cup servings) --10 grams of whole grain each day (4 or more servings of whole-grain bread, cereals, brown rice, oatmeal, etc). **also include these on a weekly basis: pinto, kidney, grabanzo, navy, lima beans and lots of peas and corn. *Milk --if you switch from 2 cups of 2% milk each day, to 2 cups of 1/2% milk each day....you will loose 12.5lbs in a year! *Did you know? --every 5 grams of fat on a label you see = 1 teaspoon of lard or shortening? Some people eat over 100 grams of fat per day! -- that is almost a 1/2 cup of lard each day!

Oh, another tip - use a smaller plate - the foods on your plate should only be the size of your hand. So, I have started using a bigger "saucer" or dessert plate and if my hand is outstretched it covers that plate - perfect size! I haven't had any problems doing that, so far! I have also starting eating healthy snacks and what they call "mini-meals" throughout the day. I have never been a "snacker" until the holiday season w/ all the baked goods, etc. So, I am now in that habit, but it is healthy stuff now......and I have noticed, that makes me eat less at meals, when I would normally want seconds or still be hungry.
