| Chiropractors??? Hi guys! I posted this on 4womentalk also. I have been having the worst neck and shoulder pain, as well as headaches. I know it comes from the stress at work. So....I went to get a much needed massage the other day and she recommended I see a chiropractor. Anyone have any experience with a chiropractor??

| I see a chiropractor every week and don't know what I'd do without mine. I started seeing once when I was a dancer and after those three hour classes I was ina LOT of pain. Now, I work out a lot and to start with I have the WORST back pain, add that to all the work I do online and by Friday I'm in a mess of trouble. They aren't as scary as it sounds and they can really work wonders. I have had some of the worst pain of my life relieved by them. One small bone not in the right joint or a muslce thats fixated and putting too much pressure on a bone can really cause some bad aches and pains. I would absolutely go and see one I bet you'll feel tons better! |

| If I had insurance I would be going on a routine basis, about once a month. I had to stop when I lost my insurance. I felt good. I was scared at first, but it really helped. When I was a kid my mom used to have really bad headaches all the time for about 3 years. She finally went to a chiro guy for something. Turns out her neck was out of place in about 3 spots. After treatment, her headaches went away.

| i loved going to the chiro. and getting massages, but watch if you are using insurance watch how much they are charging and your llimits that your insurance will cover, i went to the chiro and they said well take only what your insurance will cover and they did up until my limit ran out, and then they just kept on chargig but by then it was full price, and then i noticed they were charging under 3 different names or when i would go in for a massage they would charge that i seen the doctor and then after it all they turned me in without talking to me for over 3600 dollars, i had to take out a loan and then pay it off with my taxes to keep my credit good, but not all are this way im just saying aroudn here they are money hungry chiro. and they all tell you its your neck and so my husband went to another doctor and they told him his spine was crooked yet the other doc told him it was his neck and mind you they chiro both too the same x rays? so go figure thats what they are all about in my town, uhhhh

| I had a very bad experience that I have spent 1 year recovering from (including 3 months in bed) dizzy spells where I can't drive or walk, vomiting, severe pain, headaches, I could not look down for months, I could not walk with out pain, I could go on and on. I won't go through all the details (a year of hell) and dollars spent on MRI's and therapy, but I will sum up the end result. They think that I had a small stroke due to the neck manipulation and it pulled all the muscles in my neck and back and it might take 2 to 5 years for the muscles to calm down (Ijust saw the neurologist yesterday. And my therapist and my neurologist both said they have patients that are quad and paraplegic due to this, and my accupunturist treats a doctor and was tellig him the same story of one of her patients. The neurologist said that the chiropractors keep him very busy. He said too much info is passed in the spine at the neck to the rest of the body and things can go wrong fast. All 15 doctors have said to me "NO ONE touches your neck EVER" , wish I knew that before. All the doctors had no problems with any other adjustments, unless they included the spine. My neurologist suggested accupunture for pain relief, So I went to that not expecting much. It was amazing, finally I got some relief. The sad part is I was not having back or neck problems, it was a wellness program. I knew other people that swear by him. All I can say is it was the wrong thing for me. |

| Thank you all so much for sharing your experiences with me. I still don't know yet which route I will take, I just know I need relief.

| I suffer from chronic neck pain and very bad headaches. I told my neurologist of my plans to go to a chiropractor for my neck, she begged me not to. She said she has seen too many cases of permanent damage to people and even small children from going to chiropractors, she recommended massage or acupuncture instead. |

| I have problems with my neck and back and see my chiropractor whenever needed. She also does accupuncture, ultra sound treatments and low light treatment. I have had all, but the light treatment. She has helped me so much and when I get a headache that nothing will help, she is able to get it to stop. I'd say there's good and bad chiropractors. Ask around and find out who's good in your area. Good luck!

| Chiro vs. Osteopath? For those of you who had Medical doctors recommended "no" to chiropractic, was there any discussion regarding manipulative therapy by a D.O. (osteopath)? Has anyone here had osteopathic manipulation and has it helped them? I am looking for a new GP and half wonder if a D.O. might not be the best way to go, to treat the general stuff as well as the neck pain and headaches?

| Hmmmm.... some of the responses here are scary. I've never had to see a chiropractor but I've never really thought about the damage that can be done. Makes very good sense though. My best friend used to swear by these "chair massages" that her office would partially pay for. Someone (a licensed masseuse) would come in once a week and give a chair massage to anyone who wanted it. I think it was like $5 each or something that the employee had to pay each time. She said the boss supported the idea because so much tension builds up in your neck and shoulders while sitting at a desk that the massages were actually quite beneficial for his staff! Think about maybe going the massage route if you decide not to do the chiropractor.
