Electronic banking question

a person has been writing me all day from my website to buy one of my puppies. She and her husband will drive up from Florida to get it. Clencher came in the last email. she said, "I do all my banking electronically. Could I notify my bank and then they would send you a check by mail". I'v never heard of such a thing. Have any of you had any dealings with this. I am so afraid of getting scammed that I told her it wouldn't be acceptable to me. Plus, she woul pick the puppy out when she gets here and then decide which one to buy. i guess she would notify her bank at that time and my puppy would be gone. The check would come days later. Sounds like a scam to me and my puppies ain't going anywhere till I have money in my hand.

I would be nervous doing this as well...Although, I have heard of electronic banking but, even if she has her bank electronically mail it to you it could take a couple of days..I would talk to someone at your bank about this...see what they say. I'm sure people do do this. Or,you could ask her if she could pay you with a bank check..this way you don't have to worry about the check bouncing either...(I would NEVER take a personal check! I had my own business for 8 yrs and learned the hard way about personal checks) It's scary doing money things over the computer especially when you are talking more than $10.00.

I would tell her to go to the bank and get you a MONEY ORDER and bring it with her or mail it ahead of time. I do all my banking electronically too - but not like that, I've never heard of the bank sending a person a cheque for something like that... I just think it sounds fishy - when a money order is really quite simple.

I am a supervisor for accounts payable. I have never heard of an electronic bank check that arrives days after the fact.
When an electronic check is done through the bank it is available in 24hrs. and gets deposited into you personal account.
If it is an electronic transfer from one account to another it is available within hours depending on the bank.
Be very aware. This does not sound right by any means.

thanks, I haven't heard from her since I told her this is unacceptable to mee. My hubby has sold dogs for thirty five years and we thought we had seen all the scams out there. We get about one a week on his beagle puppies but this one is new to us.

That horrifies me! People are horrible... Breeders work so hard to breed wonderful little puppies and the buyers expect to get them for nothing!

what the woman is referring to is called "bill pay", which is a check issued by the bank per a request submitted electronically via online banking. but it almost never arrives at a private home the day after the request. it's the same as a personal check, so it can bounce like a personal check as well.

i'd tell the woman to send an electronic check as a deposit 1 month before they come by, then bring a money order or cash for the balance. this will give the electronically issued check time to deliver and clear before she picks up a puppy.

This is kind of how she was describing it to me. She has agreed to send the deposit then bring cash to pay the balance (if she decides she wants the puppy) This has been going back and forth all day. I am so tired of sitting at the computer today. She isn't the only one i have been dealing with today. I've had to send pictures to people nearly all day long. That is tireing. BTW, I think this lady is a member here but not sure. if it is, she hasn't told me yet but i have my reasons for thinking it is one and the same.

Your website says that you use PayPal or USPS money order. If that's your policy and it works for you, stick to it. You have had too many red flags on this one and I believe you should listen to your gut feeling.

The check could still bounce and so can money orders actually. I agree that she needs to arrive with cash. Her banking procedures should not affect how you sell your puppies.

Trust your gut!! And if you are questioning her intentions about the money I hope she has assured you of a good home life past the money issues Which I am sure you have with how much you LOVE your babies!! Is she looking to get your little boy or one of the girls? Good luck, I can't believe they are even near time to go to forever homes, they grow soooooo fast!!!

If you feel that strongly and I do to that its a scam, be careful I don't know if I would even let her get near the puppies....

I don't understand these people! If it were legit, then they would bring the money
with them when they came to pick out the puppy... And not that I think your puppies aren't special, I do! But to drive all the way from Florida to get one is crazy!!

It is commonly called ACH. It became more popular after 9/11.

If I remember right, one of the problems during that time was when the planes were grounded, checks that are flown to clearing houses could not fly. This disrupted banking institutions. One of the solutions that came from the 9/11 commission required that all banks go electronic so that it never happened again.

I could be a little wrong on the story (As I get older I am get more and more of the sometimers disease)

Well, it has all been sorted out and i believe it is an honest request after she explained it to me a little more but I am still not going to do it. As some of the other posters said, my policy is posted on my website so that is the way it will be. I talked all day to this lady yesterday and i really believe the puppy will get a good home. Not a done deal yet tho. She is a member here, I found out, that I have spoke to before about a puppy. She is wanting a girl. ( Thank goodness). It is the first inquiry I have had about a girl except for one person that wants " a pair". Everyone is wanting the boy.
