| I need advice - way off topic !!! Okay, this is going to sound crazy, but I have a woodpecker problem!!! We have a cedar log home and a woodpecker has been on the side hammering away. If we open a window, it will scare him off, but then he is right back. We've had exterminators come out to make sure we didn't have any termite or bug problems, so we really do not know why this bird keeps pecking at the wood!!! As you can imagine, it is really annoying!!!! ---not to mention, the damage I am sure it is doing!!!! Does anyone know of a good way to get rid of it or make it stop......w/o killing it (I think they are protected here, but not sure). Thanks!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Time to break out Monkey-SCARE (scarecrow style deterrant) this is an old pic but worked for me with birds - problem was the girls couldn't stand him all staked out Have you thought of making something loke this and sticking it on the part he's pecking ??? or spraying something on the wood as a deterrant ?? Loud music maybe ? a picture of a really BIG bird ??? |

| What about getting one of those plastic owls. We have a boat and I have seen people tie them up to their boat to keep the ducks and birds off their boat

| We have woodpeckers around here and they go crazy on houses, decks, trees you name it...the only thing we have found that works is a owl, we put a big one on the roof of the house and it worked....

| Thanks everyone! I will try one of those owls. I would use Brownie too, but there would be no "borrow", he would be here to stay! Would that be okay!!!?? Ha! Villette - when I seen that, I was like "what the heck"!!! BUT hey, if it worked. I think this woodpecker is pretty smart because on the back side of our house, it is 3 stories tall. We have a deck on the second story, but it is straight up to the 3 story and the roof.......and wouldn't you know it, that is where he goes!!!!! I hope the owl thing works......I have seen those inflatible ones, so that is what I will do.......although, I do have a big monkey that I could hang up back there! HA!

| Did you have your home built? If so, call the builder and see what they recommend. If you didn't have it built you still should be able to call a log home builder and get advice. You might even find something in one of the log home builder magazines. We have a cedar log home too and we have woodpeckers but they don't bother ours but I have no idea why. |

| Been there ...... OK .... I know what worked for my Mom's house. Several years ago a woodpecker began pecking on my Mom's house .... checked for all the reasons ... there was none other than it seemed he just enjoyed pissing her off! We tried everything because this little lady in her 80's was threatening to blow his red head off!! After making sure there was no gun at hand ... my bil who is from Minnesota said he had a solution that would work. He bought those realistic looking lifesized rubber snakes and hung it next to the woodpecker's pecking spots. He never, ever pecked again!! Go figure!!! [and yes, they are protected]
