| Im so upset...just need to vent.. Of course with Christmas coming anything that can go wrong IS GOING WRONG!! I work at home, a handicapped woman lives with us full time and I do a sort of foster care for her. The wages are enough to GET BY on but I depend on my child support check and my child tax credit to live also. The first thing that went wrong is that my child support that was due to come in on the 1st of November hasent shown up yet. I have called and called and of course I get the run around..only to find out it WAS THEIR FAULT and a mistake was made and I SHOULD get my payment within a week...great for three hungry kids huh?? Then tonight I check my account to see if my money went into my account yet only to find out im 666.00 in the hole??? I called my bank to see what the heck is going on??? They said AOL withdrew their money...im like...HUH?? I havent been with AOL for over a year, Im with Bell Sympatico!! Well it is showing that they are taking money from me for service??? Now I have to go to the bank in the morning to try and find out what is going on as they cant do that over the phone...I have to sign papers so they can do an investigation...and now I am flat flat broke and IF my money from child support comes through it will go to pay off the money that I am in the hole for?? I am sitting here bawling my eyes out, flat broke without a dime to even get to the bank tomorrow to sort this out??? I live about 30-40 mins from the city that my branch is in...what am I supposed to do?? Mom and Dad have lent me money to get by...this has never happened to me in my 34 years on this planet. I dont borrow from people...I dont make tons of money but there is ALWAYS food on our table and clothes on our backs. I have been reading on the computer that AOL is doing this to people saying that if you have closed down your account then what is your conformation number?? I dont have one...they havent taken money for a year now and that was never a worry..nor did I think I needed a conformation number to close an account?? Its like a scam!!! I have no clue what I am going to do..this is unreal...I just dont know which way to turn.. Dawn |

| I'm so sorry sweetie - life just sucks sometimes, doesn't it! It just seems so unfair sometimes. You are an angel to care for someone with a handicap - remember that! I know that your folks have already helped you, but it sounds like you just need a little help to get all this sorted out. Maybe they could loan you the $$$ to get to the bank and get this corrected. It really makes me mad to hear about the AOL thing, I just hate it when things like this happen - they just don't understand what things like this can do to people. Keep your chin up, work on one thing at a time, try to be positive for the kids, keep moving forward. You can do it!!!

| You can do one of two things. 1. Put a dispute claim with the bank, I have B of A and that can be done on line. They will give you back some of the money now and the rest when they finish the investigation. OR 2. You can also call AOL and speak to them about this and they will give you an address to send in your complain and just make sure this time they do cancel the account , don't take any free offers. They will check the system and see you have not used the account and refund you for every month you have not used it, will take a while to get the refund. They have done this a lot and are having to refund hundreds of dollars, but you need to fight them. Good Luck with this.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I'm sorry to know of your recent problems, it will get better. You should be proud that you have provided for your family this many years and never needed help before now. As a single mom that has to be tough. Even tho you don't want to, borrow what you need to get by on until things improve. Yes, don't back down from AOL. Back a few months ago it was on the news here. One man had called to cancel his account, I believe he had tried to cancel in the past. This time he was recording his conversation with the company rep. I forget how long he was on the phone, seems like it was over 30 mins. The entire time the rep continued to try to keep the service active with different offers and such. The customer repeatedly asked for the acct to be cancelled, only to be asked in a different way to keep it open. As someone listening it got comical, the company idiot wouldn't give up!! As a customer, I would have been PO'd. My point is AOL has recently had numerous consumer complaints about this very subject - account cancellation. The bad press on this incident was very embarrassing for them and I would think they would be quick to resolve other complaints. Good luck hon, and don't let it get you too far down.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Awww....sending you hugs - AOL SUCKS ! They've done this kind of thing to so many people and that is one company that totally takes over your computer AND bank accounts when you sign on with them - I used them for my first Internet provider and it took me months to straighten out the account when I gave it to my son - they just want money and don't want people to EVER leave them - This WILL PASS Girl - I promise you it will ....and if I were you - I'd be bombarding AOL with phone calls AND emails to get this resolved AND see if they can make good on the trouble they caused you - that just isn't right. |

| I also had problems with cancelling AOL. I did take the time to fight them back and that was hard & frustrating as I do not have any extra time in my schedule for such matters BUT I won in the end and they had to refund my $$$ The same will happen for you, just don't let them get away with it. Don't you have a news station there that helps with areas like this. We have Ruth to the Resue for example. Check into it, they do the calling for you sometimes. Good Luck, keep your chin up

| You can do a chargeback with your bank(it does take 10 days to get the money back though). The main thing is they didn't have authorization to take money out of your account and they did. Your bank may even wave any fees if you've been with them awhile and it hasn't happened before. When we've been dead broke I've sold any and everything on ebay. Yes, it sucks. People buy anything from perfume samples to used dvd's etc. Anything you can think of to sell will go for more on ebay than at a pawn shop. We have something called Check N Go that you can borrow money (for a fee) for a week, do you have something like that around you? It might help you make it until you get your check. If not, I'm sure you know how to scrape by so that if you can bring yourself to borrow a small amount of money from anyone(family?) you could pull off a couple of meals. Being broke all the time does make it easier to know how many meals you can make with one loaf of bread Good luck, I've been in your situation and it does pass. It seems like it takes forever but it does pass. You sound like a good person, I'm sorry you're going through a rough patch.

| I didnt realize I had all these responses..thank you everyone!!! I was up all night thinking and thinking and thinking some more and reading hundreds and hundreds of AOL horror stories!! I am not the first or last to get ripped off by them...that is for sure! I went to the bank this morning after gathering change from my kids rooms for gas.... A year ago I was with AOL..when I decided to go with another much cheaper ISP provider they asked me if I would like to keep my email address for $1 a month..I said for sure as I sell on ebay and I had alot going on and couldnt lose my email account. Well AOL was faithfully taking out $1.06 (TAXES YOU KNOW LOL) of my account BUT last month they took 90 some odd dollars for whatever and now the 666.00 some odd dollars this month.. I signed two forms called Proformas which will deny AOL any money and also start an investigation. The bank will replace my money on Monday or Tuesday and gave me $75 cash until then...my account still shows a negative amount but that will change on Mon or Tues..then I can breath a sigh of relief...even though I am quite relieved now...I will call AOL on Monday morning and find out what the heck they are trying to pull... Thank you all for your support...I am really at my wits end with a bunch of crap that is going on right now in my life...when it rains it DOWNPOURS and sometimes you start to wonder WHY ME??? I know things could be alot worse...and I have lots to be grateful for in life...this just really threw me for a loop...again many thanks!! Dawn |

| Man that sucks. I feel your frustration. Beng furious is not going to help, I know that from experience. It's a test of your patience. You'll get through it. Be grateful that your parents are willing to help. Mine weren't. |

| I've also heard a lot of horror stories about AOL. Here's a link to where a man was trying to close his AOL acct. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13447232/ Sounds like things are starting to get better for you and I hope it continues that way! Hugs to you from Maddie and I!

| You are one blessed young woman -- blessed with the ability to "take care of business". Bad things happen to all of us, but it really sounds like you have had more than your fair share. When this is all over with, you need a good hot cup of tea and a HOT BUBBLE BATH! I am so very sorry that you are having this difficulty so close to the holidays. I hope everything is settled soon and you have your $$ back.... sending |
