| Dear Mr. FUV driver I got nothing against SUV's (if my next car is NOT a Benz, it will be an SUV more likely) but I thought this was great, especially what I highlighted in red, I know i've felt that way quite a few times Quote:

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | hahahaha "FUV" ??? I feel the same way - I also feel women don't have any business behind the wheel of the larger SUV's - everytime I see a particulary bad SUV driver...yup ...it's female. sorry ladies - I drive our old LONG work van sometimes ....and am a worse driver in the Van than I was in my corvette and forget about parking - sometimes I have to walk double the distance cause I don't trust myself to park in tight spots. The other thing is - didn't any SUV buyers think about price of gas BEFORE they bought their gas guzzler ??? Funny how most of the cars on the road are SUV's.... yet it's the same people complaining how much it cost to fill up. |

| Although I LOVED what you posted and can't argue with it at all, I am a former Suburban owner. I loved it!!! Before I had that, I drove a Tahoe and we "upgraded" to the suburban for more room (my son plays on a select traveling baseball team - needed the room for all the stuff we had to take on week-ends). Did it cost me an arm and 2 legs to fill it up? No - but what I did was never let the tank get below half before filling it back up. My reason? Back when my dad was very ill, I never knew when I'd get the call that "this was it" and have to drive an hour away so my mom told me to make sure my car always had at least a half tank of gas in it and if it got to half a tank, fill up - that way I was always ready and knew I could make it over there to see my dad.....I've carried that philosophy with me for over 21 years now. I now drive an Equinox and the only reason we traded the suburban for this one is my son tried out and made a select team in the next city east of us - driving 48 miles one way to practice twice a week and traveling a heck of a lot more than we did when he played on a local team was reason enough to trade down to a smaller SUV for gas purposes. But....I've learned that I don't get any better gas mileage in this one than I did in the suburban. I averaged 18mpg's in the city and 21mpg's on the highway in the suburban. I am averaging about the same in the equinox. My son has one more year on this team and then he's done with select baseball (and we are off to high school baseball). When he's done, hubby and I have already talked about getting either another Tahoe or a Suburban - I miss it terribly. Just wanted to give my story of an SUV owner. Thanks for the laugh As I said earlier in the post - I agree with what you posted and enjoyed the laugh!! Happy Friday!

| That is funny....and atleast most of us don't take it personally either! I have to forward this one to everyone!!! Thanks for posting it!!! Here are some of my thoughts (nothing bad and I'm not upset...just my two cents)..... I have had many vehicles in my life and I will never go back to a car....well, we drive classic (from 1970 and earlier) cars (Corvettes, Camaros, Chevelles, etc), but unless I get that new Jag I want, I will stick to SUV's for everyday driving. I drive a very loaded Yukon and LOVE it! It isn't too big and it is really no bigger then the Toyota and newer "compact" SUVs and definitely no bigger then some of the vans on the road. BUT, it is big enough for hauling family around where everyone has some leg room and for hauling antique finds or car show finds back home from trips. So, for our family, our SUV is what we needed and definitely wanted. A lady rammed me in the side when I had a little sporty car several years ago and it totalled my car....I felt so unsafe....luckily, it was only me in the car, otherwise, I think my daughter would have been seriously hurt because it hit on her side. I was sideswiped again about 4 years ago in a tahoe and the damage was so slight.....I just feel safer in an SUV. Both of these accidents were cars running through stop lights!!! Yes, we pay more gas...but that is our choice....most higher end fancy cars (like the Jag I want) take the gas too and our classic cars (like our 68 Camaro SS takes the gas too) - it all depends on the motors! And I believe, we pay more for insurance...just becuase we would do more damage w/ our big steel bodies if we were in a wreck....but that is why I drive an SUV. I just like the over all safety of them! Regarding the air.....smog....it isn't only the big SUVs and off road vehicles that cause the smog today. Look at all the plants and such that let all that poison and smoke into the air....even awhile back, "they" were trying to do away w/ the older (classic) cars because of smog......I've been behind more foreign cars or little cars that let off more smelly smoke then anything else (other than semi or dump trucks). ---whew...especially when the car is pulling trying to make it up a steep hill....YUCK!!!! So....I think that is all just BS between car companies trying to get more people to buy something else......I don't think the price of gas or anything else has stopped people from buying the SUVs....I have seen more brand new 07 models on the road already!!! And we are looking at the newest Denali or Tahoe LTZ for our next one. It just all has to do w/ the person buying it. I think...if it is what you like and want and you can afford the price and the price of gas.......get what you want.....but don't whine about gas prices knowing that you drive something w/ a huge gas tank to fill! Really!!! Again, thanks for that post! I can't wait to see what people say when I forward it on!!!

I also just hate listen to people complain about it though. Yeah I hate paying for gas, doesn't everyone? But I really don't get what b*thing about it is going to do. Go vote, get a car w/ better MPG, or take public transportation. But sitting there b*tching to every other person and there mama is NOT going to change the gas prices. It's like what's the point of it?

| We own a Tahoe and a Suburban. Costs about 65.00 to fill the Suburban and 55-60.00 to fill the Tahoe. With as much driving as I do I do that sometimes twice a week. But I won't complain about it because one, we need the space with such a large family (4 kids still at home, a yorkie and a Golden and of course me and hubby) and two, believe me once you drive a Suburban you will never feel the same in a car again. My husband drives his Lincoln every day to work and I hate riding in his car. Because I drive the other two all the time and he usually drives his car I can very confidently say that I drive the big guys better and can definately park them better than can. Even he will admit to that. As for not having to comply with the emissions the same as others...first time I have ever heard that??? |
