Default Dear Mr. FUV driver

I got nothing against SUV's (if my next car is NOT a Benz, it will be an SUV more likely) but I thought this was great, especially what I highlighted in red, I know i've felt that way quite a few times
Quote:
Dear Mr. FUV driver:

Please accept my apologies for not letting you merge into my lane this morning after you tried to get around a line of cars by using the blocked off construction lane. I know your gigantic Suburban is better than my little girly car and can handle that bumpy, stripped road, and that you could have taken off the front end of my Civic for not letting you in, but see, here’s my theory: you already take up too much.

-You take up too much of the road. I know, the lanes should be wider to accommodate you, but they aren’t yet. You take up the entire lane from left to right, and if that isn’t enough, you usually don’t pay attention to your driving, so you take up even more by drifting over at me. Or, you are tailgating me at 80 MPH on the highway to make you move out of your way. So you pretty much already get the majority of the road.

-You take up too much parking space. Your long ass car hangs out into the driving lane. You take forever to park because you can’t maneuver your battleship into the space; if you are conscientious enough to care that you are parked between the lines, or close to the curb, which isn’t the norm. So, you usually take up more than your share of parking spaces by parking like s**t. But hey, you are special, and you’ll “only be a minute”. I should be more patient.

-You take up too much of my line of vision. I can’t see around you to see if I can make a left turn; I can’t see around you to see if I should pull into traffic. I can’t see the road ahead of me for your big ass. I’m usually stuck reading the stupid stickers you put on that big ass to announce your alliances. I know I should care about New Trier, or the fact that you are proud of your University of Dayton alumni status, but I really don’t.-You take up too much gas. I know it’s your right if you can afford to pay for it, but I can’t help feeling sorry for those mothers who are paying for your gas addiction with their sons. I’ll try harder to get over it.

-You take up too much air. I know your FUV is officially categorized by the government as a truck so you don’t have to adhere to regular emissions standards, but it’s my ozone too. And I’d like a few days of summer to be less than 100 degrees, I still like snow in the winter, but hey, I’m selfish that way.

-You take up too much velocity. When you hit me doing your 50 mph, there is no doubt I will die because your two tons of metal will not be slowed significantly by my compact car. I guess I should be grateful that I will go quickly, if not painlessly.

-You take up too many cell phone minutes. Is there some secret FUV club that I am not aware of? Because you are all, always, on your cell phones.

So, Mr. or Ms. FUV driver, if you see me in my little Civic, know that I’m sorry that I don’t let you cut into traffic after driving around those waiting in line. I’m sorry I don’t give you the option at a 4 way stop. I’m sorry if I don’t move out of your way immediately on the highway when you tailgate. I’m sorry I’m not more courteous, because, to me, just the fact that you are driving that thing without a legitimate reason makes you a selfish prick.

H. Civic

hahahaha "FUV" ??? I feel the same way - I also feel women don't have any business behind the wheel of the larger SUV's - everytime I see a particulary bad SUV driver...yup ...it's female. sorry ladies -

I drive our old LONG work van sometimes ....and am a worse driver in the Van than I was in my corvette

and forget about parking - sometimes I have to walk double the distance cause I don't trust myself to park in tight spots.

The other thing is - didn't any SUV buyers think about price of gas BEFORE they bought their gas guzzler ??? Funny how most of the cars on the road are SUV's.... yet it's the same people complaining how much it cost to fill up.

I am definitely guilty of that...lol...when we bought my truck last year, it was right before the gas went sky high and us wanting the faster engine (how stupid of us), got the Cherokee with the HEMI in it....now all I do is complain about gas..I hate spending so much money on gas now...but I also would never ever give up my truck for a car...

Although I LOVED what you posted and can't argue with it at all, I am a former Suburban owner. I loved it!!! Before I had that, I drove a Tahoe and we "upgraded" to the suburban for more room (my son plays on a select traveling baseball team - needed the room for all the stuff we had to take on week-ends). Did it cost me an arm and 2 legs to fill it up? No - but what I did was never let the tank get below half before filling it back up. My reason? Back when my dad was very ill, I never knew when I'd get the call that "this was it" and have to drive an hour away so my mom told me to make sure my car always had at least a half tank of gas in it and if it got to half a tank, fill up - that way I was always ready and knew I could make it over there to see my dad.....I've carried that philosophy with me for over 21 years now.

I now drive an Equinox and the only reason we traded the suburban for this one is my son tried out and made a select team in the next city east of us - driving 48 miles one way to practice twice a week and traveling a heck of a lot more than we did when he played on a local team was reason enough to trade down to a smaller SUV for gas purposes. But....I've learned that I don't get any better gas mileage in this one than I did in the suburban. I averaged 18mpg's in the city and 21mpg's on the highway in the suburban. I am averaging about the same in the equinox. My son has one more year on this team and then he's done with select baseball (and we are off to high school baseball). When he's done, hubby and I have already talked about getting either another Tahoe or a Suburban - I miss it terribly.

Just wanted to give my story of an SUV owner. Thanks for the laugh As I said earlier in the post - I agree with what you posted and enjoyed the laugh!! Happy Friday!

Hey! I'm not bad when I drive the avalanche or trailblazer. Actually I'm way more cautious, but in the accord, well it drives really smooth and unless your staring at the speedometer it's really hard to guess how fast your going. That could lead to some problems (knock on wood)

I used to think that way too...it was a big joke with me and a friend of mine...until I bought my first Expedition and I was forever changed. It's not an 'extention' thing...it's the power!

That is funny....and atleast most of us don't take it personally either! I have to forward this one to everyone!!! Thanks for posting it!!!

Here are some of my thoughts (nothing bad and I'm not upset...just my two cents).....

I have had many vehicles in my life and I will never go back to a car....well, we drive classic (from 1970 and earlier) cars (Corvettes, Camaros, Chevelles, etc), but unless I get that new Jag I want, I will stick to SUV's for everyday driving.

I drive a very loaded Yukon and LOVE it! It isn't too big and it is really no bigger then the Toyota and newer "compact" SUVs and definitely no bigger then some of the vans on the road. BUT, it is big enough for hauling family around where everyone has some leg room and for hauling antique finds or car show finds back home from trips. So, for our family, our SUV is what we needed and definitely wanted.

A lady rammed me in the side when I had a little sporty car several years ago and it totalled my car....I felt so unsafe....luckily, it was only me in the car, otherwise, I think my daughter would have been seriously hurt because it hit on her side. I was sideswiped again about 4 years ago in a tahoe and the damage was so slight.....I just feel safer in an SUV. Both of these accidents were cars running through stop lights!!!

Yes, we pay more gas...but that is our choice....most higher end fancy cars (like the Jag I want) take the gas too and our classic cars (like our 68 Camaro SS takes the gas too) - it all depends on the motors! And I believe, we pay more for insurance...just becuase we would do more damage w/ our big steel bodies if we were in a wreck....but that is why I drive an SUV. I just like the over all safety of them!

Regarding the air.....smog....it isn't only the big SUVs and off road vehicles that cause the smog today. Look at all the plants and such that let all that poison and smoke into the air....even awhile back, "they" were trying to do away w/ the older (classic) cars because of smog......I've been behind more foreign cars or little cars that let off more smelly smoke then anything else (other than semi or dump trucks). ---whew...especially when the car is pulling trying to make it up a steep hill....YUCK!!!!

So....I think that is all just BS between car companies trying to get more people to buy something else......I don't think the price of gas or anything else has stopped people from buying the SUVs....I have seen more brand new 07 models on the road already!!! And we are looking at the newest Denali or Tahoe LTZ for our next one. It just all has to do w/ the person buying it.

I think...if it is what you like and want and you can afford the price and the price of gas.......get what you want.....but don't whine about gas prices knowing that you drive something w/ a huge gas tank to fill! Really!!!

Again, thanks for that post! I can't wait to see what people say when I forward it on!!!

I agree. I HATE when people complain about gas prices, depsite what they are driving. When gas was expensive this summer my car was just about $50 for a full tank. I did hate it, and was real happy when it lowered about $10. But then I get someone with an economy car, like a cavalier or civic come up to me and complain...that is like if I go up to an owner of a V8 and complain! I would laugh and ask them if they wanted to switch. I remember my civic, it was like $25 tops to fill it up!
I also just hate listen to people complain about it though. Yeah I hate paying for gas, doesn't everyone? But I really don't get what b*thing about it is going to do. Go vote, get a car w/ better MPG, or take public transportation. But sitting there b*tching to every other person and there mama is NOT going to change the gas prices. It's like what's the point of it?

We own a Tahoe and a Suburban. Costs about 65.00 to fill the Suburban and 55-60.00 to fill the Tahoe. With as much driving as I do I do that sometimes twice a week. But I won't complain about it because one, we need the space with such a large family (4 kids still at home, a yorkie and a Golden and of course me and hubby) and two, believe me once you drive a Suburban you will never feel the same in a car again. My husband drives his Lincoln every day to work and I hate riding in his car. Because I drive the other two all the time and he usually drives his car I can very confidently say that I drive the big guys better and can definately park them better than can. Even he will admit to that. As for not having to comply with the emissions the same as others...first time I have ever heard that???
