| Here are the maltese in our family, the right is my Chloe and the other two are my mom's. IMO they are more laid back, they are silly and sweet. I find them easier to potty train. They don't seem as eager to learn and perform tricks like yorkies do. Their coats are totally different. You will need to brush a maltese daily if they are in long coat, if you keep them short it's not bad at all. I think their prices are similar to yorkies. Things to keep in mind when looking is nice black points, a straight coat, and correct tail set. |

| I love maltese!! I currently have one and will be getting another one in a couple of months as soon as she is old enough. Personality wise, they are much more calmer than yorkies and they are true lapdogs, they just love being on your lap and cuddling. The biggest differences as far as looks go, is obviously the color, maltese are white, the tail is not docked and is carried over their back and their ears are down. Maltese are the same size as yorkies. As for the coat, maltese have silky straight coats just like yorkies. But like some yorkies you will have a maltese with a cotton coat which is a pain to deal with. The only thing I find that can be a pain with them is the tear staining. Most maltese tear stain and it requires alot of care to keep the tear stains away. Of course the excellent maltese with great pedigrees will have little to no tear staining. The cost for a maltese is usually around the same price as yorkies but they can be a little higher in some places. I can't complain about how much I paid for mine because Poptart only cost me $200 and my female will be about $400,but that is only because my really good friend breeds maltese and I get them cheap from her. Sorry, I don't know any breeders in Canada. Here is a picture of my maltese Poptart with my two yorkies. Poptart looks really blurry in the picture when you make it bigger. I can't figure out why it does this because the actual pictures are crystal clear and perfect and not fuzzy or blurry at all. I think my scanner may be going bad. Chloeandj, I just saw your post. Your maltese girls are soooo gorgeous!!!!

| They are adorable!! My friend has a Maltese and its true she is laid back compare to mine. The sweetest thing...not saying that mine aren't but she is sweet and calm. She is also the same age as mine. Actually her mom has her sister and is thinking about finding a new home for her. My friend asked me if I was interested..I said sure! BUT my fiancee doesn't want me to take her Oh well if she does decide to find a new home I'm taking her anyway! I am the only one now that take care of my babies...no one else helps with bathing nor making sure they have fresh food...so who cares...lol I'll take her anyway!! |

| OK, so y'all say they're laid back. Do they still like to play with your Yorkies? Hopefully I'll be getting another dog within the next year (ok, so I like to plan ahead) and can't decide if I want another Yorkie or if I want a Maltese. The laid back part sounds like a dream, b/c Sadie is anything but, however I part of the reason for getting another dog is so that Sadie has someone to play with. So if they don't really play with the others (a little rough & tumble is good for them, right?), I might stick w/the Yorkie.

| I love my Maltese, Codie. He is much more laid back and relaxed than my Yorkies, Tee Tee. Codie would rather sit on my lap and cuddle all the time -- he's a big time kisser too! And he's VERY loyal to me! He's just an all aroud sweetheart!! I love him to pieces -- he's so wonderful!! I would definitely recommend a Maltese to anyone!!

| Yes, maltese are calm but they are also playful and love to play with other dogs. My maltese loves playing with my yorkies. So yes they are playful and get along with yorkies. For the eyes, to keep the tear staining down, I wipe under the eyes with a wet wash rag and then I put cornstarch under the eyes, being careful not to ever get it in the eyes. The cornstarch will keep the area dry which is also good for bacteria since bacteria grows in moist places. It also keeps it clean and nice and white. There are so many products out there that they have to keep under their eyes clean and they also have home remedies such as the cornstarch. I have heard using polident on the tear stains works wonders, I have not tried it yet. They are really great dogs to have, I love the breed!!

| Here is my little Tiki in all of her glory! I love her to death, she is such a little princess. If I had to do it all over again I would do the same, a Maltese and a Yorkie. Two lovely little personalities totally full of love, and yet so different! Surfie is laid back, Tiki, not so much, yet so much easier to train. Here she is, I'll just leave you with that image until tomorrow......

You guys have really made a Maltese seem like a great pet. I love the lap factor...although Darla is my true lapdog!! She would be awfully jealous...she adores Reece though and they play like crazy!! I would hope I could keep my Maltese as sparkling white as all of yours!! Now to figure out a way to approach my hubby...think Ill wait until I find a breeder and make him come along!! He can NEVER say no when he sees them in person...muah hahaha..I am evil...tee hee Dawn | |
