| Just had an Earthquake here! Cor blimey! It was a fairly big one too! Dixie did her bit by "Grrrr"-ing at the shaking (very reassuring). Everytime it happens I think "OMG I haven't updated the survival kit What if this is the "big one"". And then as soon as it's over I forget all about it! (At least I've just bought kibble so the pets'll all be ok for the next 6-8 weeks!) There's a website that monitors these things and I took a screen dump of the squiggly graph thing. You can definitely see SOMETHING happened! Here's a link to some info on the actual quake. It was 5.9 on the richter scale! http://www.geonet.co.nz/latest.html It was a bit south of where I live. I live in Wellington which is at the very bottom of the North Island.

| Yeah we're all fine - nothing fell off any shelves or anything. Thanks for your concern! I did notice that Dixie was a little twitchy and "grr"y just before I felt the shaking. But she can be like that for all sorts of random reasons - bless her. Dougal, however, being a bloke, was impervious to it all and only when the shaking started did he look up from his nap - and went straight back to his nap as soon as it stopped shaking. It was 80km south of Nelson. There's a map of where it was centred in the link I posted. It's scary just how many quakes we get here. It's something like 20,000 per year. I only ever feel one or two of those. The CEO of the govt department I work for used to research all that plate tectonics stuff. She gets so excited whenever we can feel an earthquake - it brings out her inner geek! LOL

| I am glad you are ok. Was this Dixie's first earthquake? Maybe now she knows what to listen for and can tell you in the future. We used to have a lab that woud let us know when a tornado was coming. So far we haven't seen that ability from Katy yet. But, we really haven't had any since she was a pup. |

| Hi, It wasn't Dixie's first earthquake. I think this was the first time she's been aware of it before I felt it. May be I could suggest her to my ceo as a special earthquake detecting dog and we could get funding! LOL! Quote:
