| Some vets really DO care! I would like to share the story of my 14 year old schnauzer. His health has been failing and I knew that he could get gravely ill at any time, plus he had arthritis very very badly in his back legs. So, when I knew we were going to be gone on business/vacation for 2 months this summer, I instructed my daughter to do whatever needed to be done, should he become ill while I was gone. Anyway, the unthinkable happened and he became gravely ill with kidney failure. My daughter took him to our great country vet. He told my daughter that he was very ill, but that he would keep him and give him IV fluids. I was out of cell phone service that day and didn't know about it till the next afternoon. I called the vet and he said that there was nothing that could be done, but he would try to keep him alive till I got home. It was going to be 4 days till we got home and so I told the vet I didn't want him laying in that strange place all those days and to go ahead with the inevitable I told him that I wanted him cremated and he said that he would send him to get that done and would call me when his ashes were back. He called last week and I went out to get my dear pet. The ashes were in a very nice little wooden box and there was a beautiful certificate with his name, cremation date, and a touching little poem. It was really really very nice. The cremation was not done by the vet, but rather by a place that has a pet cemetary. When I looked at the bill from the vet - he only charged me $25.00 for keeping him, giving him IV fluids, and putting him to sleep. I was floored - I know his charges are so very reasonable, but I expected to pay much much more for over 24 hours of hospitalization. Anyway, I just needed to share this story and to let people know that some vets ARE in it for the love of their patients, rather than money. I know there are lots of vets out there like this, but sometimes they are kinda hard to find!

| Sorry for your loss! It is great to know that there are good vets out there. I love our country vet - we had been to sooo many before we found her. She is upfront and honest and very caring! Finding a vet like that is like winning the lottery! A person is very blessed to have a wonderful vet!

| Thank you for taking the time to share your story and I'm so very sorry for the loss of your baby Yes, there are wonderful vets out there who truly care about your baby. I'm one of the lucky ones as well - I graduated high school with our vet and have known him a long time. He truly cares about all the furbabies he takes care of. After Gage was "altered" back in February, on the day we brought him home, he called us at home that night to check on him, making sure he was eating and drinking okay. He then called me the next day to make sure everything went okay during his first night home.

| Thank you - dear souls, for the kind words about the loss of my much loved Schnauzer. Not long ago, someone lamented that sometimes their threads got lots of views, but few replies. I sorta feel the same way sometimes - this time in particular - and I sure do appreciate you, Peanut, Sadie's Mom, Jenn218 and Magnolia, for your kind words of support - they are truly appreciated!

| I"m sorry for the loss of your kitty too - my dear Persian kitty was 18 years old (a couple of years ago). My daughter and I took him to the same vet - same story, only he didn't have to stay overnight and get IV's, it was obvious when we took him in that he was at the end of his life (it was a great life though, he was NEVER sick till the last day of his life!). This same vet didn't charge us a penny to make him comfortable and help him out of this life to the next. I wouldn't trade this vet for all the fish in the sea!!!!!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am sorry to hear about your little guy. What a great vet. Also, I know how hard it must have been to have this happen while you were away, but I would have done the same thing and had him sent to the Rainbow Bridge so he didn't have to lay there alone. My heart goes out to you.
