| Have you ever seen a coyote? My husband and I were up early this morning for some reason and heard scratching noises. We looked out the window to find 2 huge coyotes in our back yard sneaking up on our ducks. My husband ran out there like an idiot man would and scared them off, they jumped our fence like it was nothing. And boy are they fast! I'm done living in the country! All of our chickens have been taken away by hawks and now our ducks will be gone soon if those coyotes come back. I hate that our farm animals are attracting wild animals. I worry about my dogs. |

| Hi they aren't just in the countryside, we have a bad coyote problem here in the city. They snatch small animals, cats, dogs even with a small dog on a lead with the owner but the lead is too long. Coyote will run up from behind grab the dog and keep going. Foolish people feed these coyotes so they lose their fear of humans. |

| I know what you mean, i live in country too, dont have anymore animals other then my dogs, and i worry about them getting out. They are allways on leash, feel sorry for them, but thats the way its got to be. I would kill for a nice big fenced yard ! I see Coyotes here once in a while too. When i take dogs out i allways keep that in mind, scary....

| BE CAREFUL if you're seeing coyotes in your area. DO NOT let your dogs out, esspecially in the dark without you RIGHT there. Sometimes they get brave to where they don't even care if a human is close by, so the best thing is to put your dogs on a leash when they're out. Coyotes have become a big problem over here. We live in a very populated part of the city and they are getting very brave. We have signs up around the neighborhood to watch your pets close. Someone has even seen one scoop up a cat and run away with it. Be very careful to protect your animals. The coyotes know you have them and they will probably come back. I guess you should ask your husband if he can make some kind of mesh/chickenwire enclosure for the ducks to be inside of, esspecially at night. Good luck. |

| I llive near an interstate but kinda in the woods and we see deer, fox and coyote. The first time I seen the coyote it was at night in the front of our house below our yard. I was letting my two chis(only have one now) out before bed. They were both trained to go out without a leash and come right back. My bigger chi spotted the coyote about the same time I did and before I could call them back in my chi went after the coyote and chased him down our hill so I of course grabbed my broom and went after him as soon as my other chi went in the house.I was scared to death that my chi would be killed, but he was fine. The coyote was scared off and my chihuahua was fine he came back up the hill like nothing happened. Needless to say we built a tall wood fence in the back yard. We have not seen this coyote or any others since that night. I think one of my neighbors who seen it too on a different night took care of the problem. So be very carefull in letting your dogs out especially if you know coyotes are in the area.

Don't let the cyotes keep you from enjoying country life. We have lived here in the mountains for many years and we have had them, also Bob Cats, once a Mountain Lion. Will also mention the snakes getting our eggs, we never let our yorkie out in the yards mainly because of the wild rabbit doo doo on our lawns, but our Dobies loved the outdoors, we always brought them in at dusk and kept them in till day light every day. We built a chicken house for ours and it had all sides and top with chain link fence, stronger and lasts forever, of course we still had to share our eggs now and again with the snakes. We also had geese, they are great honkers and will scare away the cyotes, snakes. Our Dobermans we would always bring them in at night on our enclosed patio. I have seen cyotes in our yard during the night, once three of them getting apricots off our tree and watched them chase a Bob Cat out, they can scale a six foot chain link fence in a jiffy. They are probably thirsty and hungry, in Calif. it has been so dry so they are coming into residential areas for what they can find. The squirrels have been stripping our fruit trees I love country living for so many reasons and it can be enjoyable even with all the wild life just have to learn precautions. I would never leave a yorkie outside unattended for a minute or any small dog. Cyotes are real sneaky animals. I have seen them lay in watch. | |

| Oh yes, we see them all the time. Plus, we have bobcats, owls, hawks, foxes, skunks, weasles, raccoons, mountain lions... you name it, we probably have it! I do not let my dogs outside without me! If we see a coyote, we shoot it.

| In many areas, there are bounties on coyotes. If they get over populated with little food, they will kill cattle, chickens, you name it. For rural Americans whose income may depend on livestock/chickens/etc, the coyotes must be managed. We have a friend with a truck garden and the coyotes (among other critters) will get in the garden and eat the watermelons, tomatoes, etc. Here in Austin, at the edge of town, a friend of my was walking his 2 dogs and a coyote came and grabbed one of the dogs from right in front of him and killed it. They did not find the dog, the coyote took it off to eat it. They can be quite a menace. Be careful. On the other hand, I have lived in the country (not now though) and you just learn to live with them and the precautions to take.

BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | my husband has a coyote skin that he tanned. I know I would love to move to the country, but with small dogs, we would have to be so extra careful, not that we have bob cats or mountain lions or even bears here in Indiana. You got so lucky the other night with Chloe, so glad nothing got ahold of her!!! |

| We live in the country too, about 7 miles north of town. We have the red-tail hawks to watch out for and the coyotes. And thanks to jerk heads who dump their dogs in the country, we now have coydogs. We are just careful though, the beauty of the wildlife far out weighs the dangers. We see deer, fox, lots of birds, and raccoons. Even the coyotes are pretty at certain times of the year. I wouldn't shoot them. I would just learn how to protect me and mine. They don't know any better than to try to survive and isn't that what we all try to do....every day?
