Controversial breeds: Pit bulls discussion. Im sure that there is a topic on this one. I just wanna discuss on this one. BSL AKA Breed Specific Legislation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breed-specific_legislation I had heard that there are many news about the controversial breeds American Pit bulls and other pit bull types. And as for the Fablish incident in 2005, it makes me scared of pit bulls and in fact, only thing that makes me sad that Mrs.Fablish locked up her own son in the basement instead of the pit bulls and as a result, her son life was lost. And the thing that makes me angry is that Mrs.Fablish cares her pit bulls more than her son and doesn't show any remorse for her son. Loving your pets is one thing but most importantly, you also have to care for your living son.

Not sure what "the Fablish incident" is that you refer to , but I can guess, by what you said. I'm in Denver, Colorado. Denver has had a Pitt Bull ban for several years. In the last 2 years, 5 or 6 municipalities have passed or are considering passing a similar ban. One or two will grandfather in exsisting dogs, but no new dogs are allowed. Most want owners to get rid of their dogs, so it's either that, hiding the dogs, or moving. Many surrounding cities feared people moving there, and becoming a magnet for Pitts. So, without anything actually happening, they've enacted these restrictive ordinances.

I can say from personal experience Pit Bulls are one of the most people loving dogs there are. Some are dog agressive as most terriers are, but they are not naturally people agressive. I've had 2 in my life and both have been the sweetest dogs, and i've met many responsible pit bull owners who have also extremely sweet gentle dogs. The problem is when irresponsible people get them for the wrong purposes. This is a great example of how pits really are: http://pitbulls.iwarp.com/photo.html Pits will always have a special place in my heart. I love the breed and if it wasnt bc rental places usually dont allow you to have them, i'd have one. When I had my pits, many times, mini pinchers, poodles, chihuahuas, etc wanted to fight with them, and they never ever did anything to the little dogs, if they would have though, i guarantee they would have blamed it on the "vicious pitbull", its what the media loves to do .

Do a search here on YT for pit bulls. This is a very heated subject and most threads end up locked.

Personally... I think it's more of a problem of irresponsible breeding and irresponsible owners. Unfortunately Pits are one of the most overbred dogs in the US. Which means irresponsible people who don't give their dogs much care are more likely to get ahold of them. I think that if the issue of overbreeding was solved, then it would fix many of the problems such as dog attacks, overpopulation, and animal cruelty. LA is talking about a law that would make all pets be microchipped and fixed unless it was used as a registered breeder. I think this is a great idea because animals will only be in the hands of loving people who cherish their pets. I do not believe animals should be easy to get ahold of because they are not cheap to keep. If there are less animals irresponsibly bred, then less will be put down in the future. Also, less idiots will be able to get ahold of pitt bulls and other breeds roughing them up instead of raising them to be loving animals.
