| Bunions Hi everyone, I'm having bunions surgery next month. Has anybody gone through this experience before? How long does it usually take to heal? The podiatrist told me I will be ready in 6 weeks, but I'm just nervous, and the thought about surgery gives me the creeps, but I know I have to do it because they hurt a lot.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I don't want to scare you but I had to have that surgery too....they put pins in my big toes and they broke my baby toes - came from years and years of high heels and man that surgery HURT. It took me about 4 months to fully recover but it's Worth it in the long run. GOOD LUCK ! |

| I had the surgery as soon as my feet stoped growing. I had pretty bad bunions and they said I would develop hammer toe in my other toes is I didn't have it fixed. It took me 6 weeks at least to be completely back on my feet. It did hurt some and mine was worse because I found out when I left the hospital I was allergic to codine, the pain killer they had given me. The drugs helped thoough once we found one I could take. One thing I would recommend...my doctor had me rewrap my feet every week. If I were you I would have the doctor or nurse rewrap them if neccessary as I think I didn't do mine quite right and now my feet aren't as perfect as I would like them to be. It will go fine. Just go out and get lots of movies and books to keep you occupied for a while. |

| BTDT The standing joke in my family was 'if she can't do it 3 inch heels, Sherry Lynn ain't doin' it!'.... Mine weren't as bad as Villette's and it was the 3rd toe (and I was younger then!) so I healed up pretty quickly. I think it was a couple of weeks. The one thing that I would do differently is to have it done in warmer weather so you can wear open shoes. I had mine done in the winter, and ended up getting an infection from wearing shoes and walking too early. And listen to them when they tell you to stay off your feet!!! I ended up adding to my down time because I wouldn't listen!

| My mom had the very same surgery. Both feet were done, but at seperate times. If you'd like to speak w/ her about how she managed to raise three kids and two dogs while our dad was out to sea during one of her surgeries please do! lol : sparkswife@comcast.net Her name is Faith. I think that the technique they used differed slightly per foot. Her feet are gorgeous now and while one has a terrible scar, the other is quite un noticeable. I'm glad she had it done! I may have to go through it myself as now at 24/25 I'm developing Bunions too. *grr* |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Sherry Lynn is right - do NOT try to do anything sooner than they say - the 2nd operation.... I took off that 'shoe' and tried to give my cocker Tessa a bath - I walked into a towel that was on the floor - and talk about instant PAIN....my little toe that hit the towel swung all the way back and I re-broke it. Let's just say I found out know every cuss word in the book... but I DID NOT DROP THE DOG ... I DID have to go straight back to the doctor and was in really bad pain. so BE CAREFUL ~! |

I will follow ya'll advise. I'm already thinking waht I'm going to do in my free time when not at YT. I have a whole bunch of recipes piled up that I need to organize, maybe organize my pictures and transferring them to CD. Sounds like a lot of organizing.

| Well, I had my two surgeries done. The right food first and three weeks later the left one. The right one has healed 99%. I's is still a little swollen, but the podiatrist said it's b/c it's taking the pressure from the left one. I had the left one done last week, and yesterday when I went to the doctor he unwrapped it and it looked very good. He put more bandages and he is not going to have me in another kind of shoe until next week, so I will be changing from the trendy and sexy black boot to the nice and cool blue shoe. One thing, the right foot is peeling a lot. Dr. said it is going to take a while for it to stop the peeling, did anyone of you had the same problem?
