| Help dogs in Korea Hi, everyone I am a yorkie owner, and I joined this forum few months ago. I am sad to post this sad dog cruelty to you. But I hope you can help dogs in Korea . I believe your sympathy on them can rescue dogs in Korea as soon as possible. http://www.kaap.or.kr/bbs/zboard.php...esc=asc&no=318 I found this sad story on a Korean website. I got really shocked and angry by this and I want to write to the Korean goverment to do something about this. At this moment, more Koreans realize that dog meat is not a culture but a barbarian thing which has to stop. So there are many discussions going on and the people against animal cruelty gather this Sunday to protest in Seoul. I hope they get more interests from foreign media and animal lovers which will encourage them even more. Here you can sign the petition against dog meat. http://choimimi.com/zboarde/zboard.php?id=sign I would appreciate if you can let another friends know about this. Thank you |

| so shame. Thank you for supporting poor dogs in Korea. Currently I am living in Holland . As a Korean it`s real shame to show this bad side of Korea, but I believe revealing this cruelty to more people in the world would be helpful to rescue those innocent animals. I wish Ophra can see this also. I wanna cry!!! So heart broken!! I hate those people eating dogs .I believe there are more Koreans against dog meat and take care of animal family with respect. It is so unfair the animal lovers and animal angels have to be this in pain just because of some ignorant babarian dog eaters. Please let other people know about this more.. THank you again ! |

| I Signed! I was born in Korea. My mother is korean, my father is Canadian. I have eaten korean food all my life. We have never eaten dog meat. It is my understanding it is a delicacy. Like the French eat horsemeat. I'm not saying it is right but in different cultures people eat different things.I watched a program called "Worlds Apart" and this family from the US stayed with a family in a village in Africa. They thought we (americans) were sick to eat chicken. I just don't want people to discriminate against other races for their differences of cultures.

| I think it's illegal now, I know they only used to eat certain dogs. But I don't think they do it anymore, I hope not. Any kind of dog is cruel I live here in Korea and I haven't seen any restaurants that sell dog meat . I have however seen many Koreans love and take good care of their dogs. As a matter of fact there is 5 vet clinics around my neighborhood and the dogs here look so cute. Most of the dogs I encounter are dressed and nicely groom. |

| Koreans who eat dog meat also think it’s a delicacy and it’s traditional culture which westerners can’t say anything about. I don’t think it’s a culture, dog meat is only a bad habit from the old days which has to stop. You talk about horse’s meat. I think horse meat, whale meat and dog meat all should stop. We don’t have to compete among each other which food is the most horrible. The point is whether Korea or USA or France, if it’s a horrible eating then we should stop eating. Dog meat is not a Korean traditional culture. Culture should be something you can find only in one country. But dog meat started in China and we just copied it. Korean’s origin is horse-riding people. Same horse -riding people such as Turkish, Mongolian and Japanese. They don’t eat dog meat. Around the time dog meat started to be introduced, the Buddhist banned dog meat. Also people thought dog meat would bring bad luck to people especially to women, and it couldn’t go on the Jesa ( memorial ceremony for ancestors) . If it was a real delicacy why ancestors didn’t allow dog meat on their memorial day? This dog meat was eaten more when we were very poor . While we had no food to eat, but still they didn’t eat their own doggies and they thought it `s a shame to eat dogs. I remember people usually went to the corner of riverside or mountain. They were not proud of killing dogs. Now, Korea is not a poor country , they have lots of food to eat and enjoy life. Why they still have to eat our best friend animals? It’s because some people think it `s good as viagra and good for protecting the body at hot summer days. And who decided which are the eatable dogs? Dogs are all same. Just same as Humans are all same . The eatable dogs are Korea’s traditional yellow dogs. They used to be Korean’s best friends. The protection of culture should be letting them live with Koreans and not raise them for eating. If you see the poor dogs eyes waiting for death, you can’t say it’s a delicacy. It’s only animal cruelty. |

I agree many dog-owners treat their pet as one of the family and buy all the best food and clothes /toys for them. That's why it's so strange that there is still this 'dark' side where people don't think the dogmeat they eat is from the same animal which they love so much at home.

Yes, I lived there for 2 1/2 years and this is what I was going to say. The dogs that are eaten are raised for that purpose. While I realize we don't understand it, it doesn't mean they are barbarian. I am sure there are morays and or cultural things that we do that some people don't understand.
