Sad Question???

At the risk of feeling alone...I was wondering how many people have sought counseling from a professional? For reasons other than being yorkie obsessed, lol I've made an appt for the first time and I'm nervous, all of a sudden I feel like a total embarassement and even though my co-workers have no idea...I feel like a drama queen, I just want to hide...lol, course that could all be in my head!

You should not feel bad you are going to help yourself. Good Luck! Many of us take medicine to help us navigate through life as well.

Default help

Sweetie, I have had my head taken apart and put back together several times..it has made me the happy, slightly neurotic woman I am today..go, grow and discover YOU..it is good to gain knowledge and control to deal with people and life better.
I have yet to meet anyone who could not benefit by therapy!!

Don't be nervous and no one needs to know. You will feel better though. Trust me.

P.S. my folks live in Plano... how do you like it? I love it there. Thinking of moving when my kids graduate.

Chloe, I was in therapy for awhile after my husband died and it really helped alot. I also felt embarrassed to admit I needed help. I was so silly to feel that way because it is a sign of strength to get help when you need it. Good luck and I hope you have as positive experience as I did.

Just to add, I wish I had gone sooner. I carried around all that stress for so long when I didn't need to.

OMG I Fell OUT reading this lolololol....Pat...you're so funny.

chloeTG...I have to agree with everyone...It can only help. I think it's brave what you're doing......IF I could see someone myself...I would too. Take advantage of the fact that you are able to do this and all the best to you.

Going to therapy did wonders for me. I was in for 6-years the first time and just ended a 2-year cycle. I learned so much about myself and became a better person.

No one has to know what you are doing unless you tell them. Good luck, and if you ever need to vent I'm here for ya.

Everyone needs therapy at one time or another. You can get by without it, but it DOES help. So why not make life a little easier and do it? Go and enjoy taking that time for yourself.

Nothing to feel guilty about my dear friend. I've been to counseling two different time periods. Both times it helped me deal with difficult situations in my life and I didn't have to put all my burdens on my friends and family members. That's one reason why we go to someone objective.

Default therapy

V...I used to have health insurance that paid 100% for therapy...I got a Fraudian shrink and went twice a week. Learned alot at first, then ran out of stuff to talk about, he said I was avoiding issues...so I started making up the wildest dreams to talk about...he was on the edge of his chair..LOL

THEN...I found a wonderful woman therapist showed me how to be Pat, the crazy, old Yorkie lady and not give a dam what the world thinks of me...LOL It is total freedom..LOL

Not only did I seek counseling after the whole fiancé break-up, I also went on Zoloft. I don't see the psychologist anymore because...get this...she actually told me she thought I was better and didn't need to see her unless I wanted to. I was shocked!! What psych. doesn't want your money? I guess an honest one. I am still on the Zoloft. It would be a year in Sept. 2006, but I think I will attempt to lower the dosage to get off it during the summer. I think I am...no, I KNOW I am ready.

I would be dam proud if the world called me that! It really is a joy to grow older and not worry about what other people think about us but what we think about ourselves.

Chloe, no one gets through life without pain and sadness and we all have to raise a hand for help from time to time. Thank goodness we live in a time when we can seek this help out and there are medicines to help. I agree with Pat, therapy is a wonderful way to understand who you are and to grow strong with this knowledge.
