oh great....... today my fiance and i went to see the movie "8 below" (the movie with california golden boy paul walker and a whole bunch of siberian huskies...)
well guess what.......... now he wants a husky..... i told him he is NUTS, that i cant handle the fur shedding or the pack like temperment and he is still adamant about it....... all i can say is that i hope to god that by the time we get our next dog (like 10 years from now) he will want something different (like a cockapoo.... which is what i want..... )

I am a groomer and I feel sorry for dogs that are out of their climate. People make us shave their huskies/malamutes. I hate it. IMO you should tell him they are bred to live in a totally different climate.

Huskies are very cute, my sister has one.
But she lives up in Washington where there's lots of snow.
I wouldn't get one here, way too hot for them.

I totally understand your reluctance with the shedding thing. We have had two dogs during our marriage. First a toy poodle and now a Yorkie. I was drawn to the poodles first because that's what I had growing up. After he passed away, I found the Yorkie to be my dream-dog. I think I'm drawn mostly to the no shedding, lap dog thing. When we built our new house in the country, my husband decided he wanted an "outside dog"... you know, to run around with him outside and help with the cattle and stuff. He was torn between a Border Collie or an Australian Shepherd. We had MANY "discussions" about whether this dog would be allowed inside. My biggest issue was the shedding. I don't have allergies, per se, to dogs but I absolutely can't stand when I get those little hairs on my face and neck. They make me itch and my eyes get swollen when I get the hair in them. I don't know if I'm actually allergic or just don't "like" it. We ended up getting the Aust. Shepherd, "Stormie", and she's a wonderful dog, very playful and helpful with the cattle. But my husband still gives me that sad look when Stormie looks at us through the glass door like she wants to come in. I know some people have a real issue with any dogs that have to stay outside but I firmly believe that dogs can live just fine being "confined" to the outdoors. Stormie has a really nice chain-link style kennel outside with a doghouse inside it that she only stays in at night when we go to bed. Otherwise she has the run of our property. She loves it out there. My sister gives me a hard time sometimes too because I won't let Stormie inside but she has 3 dogs inside - 2 medium size mutts and 1 Great Dane!! So she isn't much help!

I agree that malamutes and huskies need to be in a colder climate anyway but I do understand the reluctance with the shedding issue!

well i have the perfect example that my fiance knows of... my uncle had a husky that he just recently had to put down. . . and that dog was so unhappy and looked terrible because of teh contant shedding and the problems with his skin and ears from the warm climate down here... huskys are dogs that are bred to stay outside in teh snow.... and we dont have snow, we have sun all year round.... deffinatly not fair to the dog. . . When we looked at the cockapoo he said "at least toby is a mans dog" exscuse me? a little dog is a little dog. Cockapoos just have the curls that he thinks are too girly.
Well, toby is going to be an only dog his whole life, so after him we will see..... but i dont think anyone can resist the cute face of a puppy no matter how "girly" the face is

sorry, forgot to answere yoru question....... yes it was good, but paul walker just has this total sense of being a "california golden boy" attitude/look.... I honestly dont know how he pulls it off, he was in alaska for heavens sake and he STILL looked like he belonged in cali
There were soooo many sad parts though, especially when some of the dogs didnt make it..... im not going to tell what happened to them coz i dont want to spoil the surprise... but bring tissue

OMG..........I can TOTALLY understand the shedding issue. We also have an Australian Shepherd who stays in the house. Hair absolutley EVERYWHERE!!! I love all animals and the hair gets to be a bit much for me at times. Our Aussie loves it outside and we are thinking of letting him stay outdoors but I want to wait until this winter is over because he never had a chance to get his "winter coat".

I never want another shedding animal again. We have a cat that sheds and that is enough.

I live in Maine, which is actually not a climate for huskies. My co-worker has one. That husky LOVES the winter time--he LIVES for the snow, and he does kind of suffer in the summer. I agree that it would be unfair to keep one warm weather all the time.

My co-worker built a little swimming pool for his husky, and that dog sits in the water all summer long.

ALSO--I would be very careful having a husky around a Yorkie. He has tried to get very rough with my Edie and I keep them apart now. No fraternization at the office!
