| don't laugh! okay, dont laugh at this question.... should i get something heavy that can do damage to take outside with me when toby goes potty ?(there is a woman in our apartment complex that has AGGRESSIVE dogs. they saw toby and almost yanked the leashes out of her hands, she had no control.... and animal control refuses to do anything until they actually biten someone) now i think animal cruelty is wrong, but i dont agree with animal controls decision to sit back and wait... i am certainly not going to be their first victim, nor is my dog going to be their "toby snack". I have a right to defend myself if i find myself in this situation right? |

| I have a kennel that sets right out side my back door. I let my little ones go in there when they go out. It makes me feel alot safer. |

The problem is that we are on teh second story of an apartment complex, so the kennel outside wont work.... we have to use the potty grass area downstairs,... we have no choice, if you read through the thread you will see she lives on the other side of teh HUGE complex, so she has no reason to be over on our side anyways.... It's like she is going otu of her way to create a situation that can be avoided

Well...apparently she has already alienated the tenants on the OTHER side of the building complex, so maybe she is actually trying to AVOID a conflict by walking her dogs on your side. I think the Video previously suggested is a great idea. Have you tried actually talking with her? Sometimes, just approaching her in a non-confrontational way...you know...strike up a convo when you are not with YOUR dog...admire them...blah blah blah...and then just mention that you are afraid of them. Maybe bring a few treats with you and befriend the dogs so they know you. Sometimes the classic "neighborly" thing smoothes things over. Francie

| Yes indeed...carry a big stick...or a bat...or get some mace! I don't believe in animal cruelty either, but I do believe in defending our yorkies. Also, you can kick the dog...I think it's right between the front legs and they will back off. A big dog jumped our fence and went for Maddie one night and thank goodness I was able to keep them apart, but next time, if it should happen, I'm going to kick the dog. Heck...he shouldn't be in my yard going after my yorkie! Yep...carry something and good luck with those aggressive dogs! Besides defending Toby, you've also got to defend yourself against them!

| scary, not funny! im sooo not laughing- this sounds pretty serious to me! I would invest in Halt like the other member suggested. Being a dog lover- not just a yorkie lover, i know its hard to even imagine having to cause harm to a dog, but when the animal puts your life or the life of your dog in jeopardy, i think its fair to say you need to take measures to protect yourself. I also think its very unfair for her to unnecessarily bring her dog to where you are...have you tried approaching her and maybe getting to know her? maybe she wants to be friends? purely an idea! what kind of dogs are they? def sounds like maybe she and her dogs need some obiedience classes...i really hope you and toby stay safe!! and good luck- keep up posted.

| didnt mean to repeat Francie! i was posting and didnt see your comment! I totally agree with you. Communicating is the best way to solve this kind of problem. Pretty much the only way. There is def a conflict that needs to be resolved before any of the parties involved have something bad happen.

| Something like Halt is much better than a bat or something to throw at them. First of all, you might end up either dropping your dogs leash or hitting your dog too if you are attacked. the Halt will keep your other hand free and swinging something at them might make them attack even more. If talking to the woman doesn't help then she may realize how serious you are when she sees you walking with Halt.

| as for communication...... that is out the window, the woman is stark raving mad, shes a lunatic....... i tried to talk to her once allready about her dogs and had no luck even saying what i wanted to say before she started in on "my little mutt almost taking her leg off" (which is to say that he hasnt been near her because she is allready surounded by a pack)....... yeah shes not very nice, i try to avoid her which has worked out well because they live over by the community mailboxes, but i dont take toby with me to get the mail anymore because of her. and we have been pretty lucky until she started bringing them over on our side. I had to refrain myself when the dogs were going at it (she was not concerned by the way... she had this look like "whatever" on her face) she is the kind of person that if i said "control youre dogs" she would just release them and let them go after toby.... As for the dogs: they appear to be mixed..... but they deffinatly have the same look so i am thinking they are from the same litter. I am pretty sure they are mixed with a lab. okay now here is my opinion: i honestly dont think that the dogs and woman need an obediance class, i dont know if anyone has any experience with labs, but they are GENTLE dogs that wouldnt hurt a fly. That woman did something to make those dogs mean and vicous. I dont think a training program would help, i think that they need to be put down, if you could see them you would realize that they are beyond help. again this is jmo and i am the biggest lover of animals, so this statement really says something about how mean these dogs really are |

| oh yeah: and shame on animal control for not doing anything until someone is BITTEN and HURT by these animals, it is a wonder that any of the public is safe at all and not mauled on a daily bases with the standoffish attitude that they have (not to mention rude... at least the "supervisor" was).... and i would also like to point out that even if someone is bitten and hurt animal control will LOOK INTO IT, there is still no guarantee that they will DO anything |
