| What can we do to stop puppy mills? I have been so horrified by reading all those puppy mill stories, is there anything we can do besides urging people to adopt and not just purchase from everywhere? Those stories really broke my heart and I want to do something damn it!!!! Anita |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | There are soo many passionate people on here (myself included) when it comes to shutting down puppy mills. They're such awful places. The government obviously knows about them, and yet they do nothing. YT does have a "sister site" called MillBusters.com and its all about puppy mills. All we can really do is educate the public, unfortunatly.

| Yes, Awareness, make as many people aware of what you know, send emails, forward sites and info,,some of my friends have said " STOP" but I don't and I tell them , " Do you wanna bury your head and not know what's going on in our area?" (tons of puppy mills in my area.) Don't buy animals from petstores, dont support them at all, tell friends about that. Write letters to your state reps or newpapers, Making everyone aware, is a beginning. I get so frustrated, and want to do something also, I try, but it is so hard, but trying to make a difference, and spreading the word is a start.

| Start the education when they are young!!! My husband and I were just talking about it tonight and our daughter said "what is a puppymill?". This is another good place to start to shut them down - educate the young so that they are not adults who think that the cute little puppy had a wonderful birth and life with mom and siblings before it got to the store!! Other than this I am glad that these places are starting to get media coverage for all the harm they cause!!! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | There is alot you can do. You can write your radio stations - tell ALL your friends and keep hounding anyone you can about coverage on this awful business....I know Rhonda and I both do lots of this and while we aren't chaining ourselves to buildings ....LOTS of letters/emails can really help - you never know when the right person will read them ... Thank you for being upset - it's a terrible terrible business...it starts with a Mill - and continues with Pet Stores..... IF people didn't shop in Pet Stores - then the mills would have to slow down their mass breeding.... |

| It just breaks my heart to think what these poor babies go through! I couldn't even imagine. We have a place around her. It is suppose to be this "upper class" type pet shop. I went in there one day and almost got kicked out, because I told everyone there not to buy the dogs. I told them that they were extremely expensive, and who knows where the poor things came from. They had them all dressed up with ribbons and bows. And there were these two men running the shop. I over heard them talking to a customer about "calling in an order" for a bulldog puppy! It just made my heart break! And the thing is, if stupid people just keep going in there and say hey! your cute, I think I will take you home! They never meat the parents! They never know the history of that poor baby! And the sad thing is, most of them probably know nothing about what they are taking home with them! That is another reason so many dogs end up at shelters! These are not just "things" that we can have and get rid of like objects. They are animals, and to people like me they are our babies! These people running these mills are heartless. I think they should have been shutdown years ago, and anyone caught doing this should be given Jail time! I think that animal cruelty punishments are more talk than anything. Look at that CC Baird guy who had the kennel here in Arkansas. He commited so many unthinkable acts of cruelty to dogs and cats. Probably in the thousands, since it took them 15 YEARS to shut them down! thats right! 15 YEARS! When the place was finally raided at gun point they rescued I think like 80 dogs, and 140 cats. Don't hold me to those numbers, because I am sure they are not exact. The point is, our government is letting this go on, they are saying that they are doing something about it. But the fact is that they are not doing it fast enough, nor is there being near enough action taken! I also believe that people need to know what is really going on in these places. Before the little babies are all primped up and sold like toys at anyones disposal! I am sure that hardly anyone with half a heart would want to buy them if they knew this. I wish we had someone is the government that felt as strongly about this as we do! Maybe our president needs to take a field trip to a few of these places. We might just see way more action than ever about this.

| You are all doing something here to stop puppy mills. I am very new to this message board. I came to find as much information on Yorkies as possible so that I can pick the right puppy for my family...and I have found information right here that has helped explain what puppy mills are and how to find out if someone I'm dealing with is getting their puppies from a puppy mill... Each person who makes a choice to NOT PURCHASE a dog from a puppy mill is reducing the demand.. If people are not willing to pay for the dogs, they will stop breeding them..so each person you educate helps. Thank you. Brenda

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I've emailed all the tv stations in my area.....anyone is welcome to use this letter if you want to - you can just copy and paste it into an email ....and I DID get a response from a tv station with this letter... To: WHO CAN HELP THE MOST - or forward to someone who can PLEASE !! I am writing to suggest a segment/story about puppy mills. These are breeding factories with inhumane conditions and horrible cruelty in several forms. They exist everywhere in the United States. Typically, these mills breed puppies until the mothers die. They have little or no medical care and are housed in torture chambers until they are of no use anymore. the puppys are sold to Pet Stores but the breeding females and males remain in the mill. I am NOT affiliated with PETA or any other group – I just love animals. Normally, the puppies are sold at an unhealthily young age to pet stores. Many of these puppies are born with or develop life-threatening illnesses and many consumers are left without their pet due to the deplorable conditions of the mom during pregnancy. I'd like you to consider covering this subject, as many people are unaware of the danger involved in supporting this evil industry. I also believe that, in doing so; you can showcase the sensitivity and caring nature of the employees of your station. A group of people have started a new website called Millbusters and are dedicated to stopping this practice…. It’s the most inhumane treatment of animals and if you could take a minute to look at a puppy mill site – http://www.puppymillrescue.com/mill5.htm or HERE http://www.dachshund.org/puppymill_images.html …you’d be appalled at what you see. Thank you for your time, and I'd love to help in any way possible. PLEASE …if you love animals and want to expose these people ….showcase a story on the EVILS of Puppy Mills...please. Thank you. Villette ***** THE ANSWER I received: I would be very interested in doing a story. Tell me what your group does... and how you are trying to stop the practice. and if you suspect any places as being puppy mills... please let me know. I have a soft spot for animals and share your anger. Sincerely, Stephanie Guadian |
