| Feel bad for shelter dogs Hey, I know this sounds kind of ironic but I've seen quite a few shelter dogs that have been there for a year or so now... I kind of pity them because while they're not the breed I want, they look calm, peaceful and kind- the dog in question has one eye(i think it had an accident) and I just cant think of seeing them being put down. I dont like the idea of dogs going to a shelter, living the rest of their lives there and or being put down.... Do you guys have any suggestions on how to help finding them a good home? Id say social media but i really don't have any followers nor am I even popular offline. I barely have any friends as sad it is to say, so just sharing it between friends would do zilch because none of them want dogs or they already have their hands full... I just don't like the idea of it is all... this is the dog in question (I know its not a yorkie I just stumbled onto its page) https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/32314844 She's one along with another I've seen. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I volunteer at a no-kill shelter 2-3x every week - so believe me, I know how tough it can be with the "long-timers". It's hard. You asked if there was something you could do other than social media. Yes - go volunteer with some shelter animals . Cuddle them, walk them, play with them, sit with the shy ones / read to the shy ones, talk to them.....every single interaction can make them more adoptable, more open, more secure within themselves -- hence, it can shorten their time in that cage. Believe me, volunteering at a shelter will give you wayyyyy more than you ever could have imagined. It will be the very best hours of your week, without a doubt .

YT 1000 Club Member | I have currently taken in 2 Yorkies that were going to be going to a shelter. Best thing I have done. The older one is a dear old man at this point, he was almost 3 years younger when I got him at age 9. He is a treasure of course. The newest one is 7 and has seizure's but she is the sweetest dog I have ever owned. They fit in well with the yorkie mix puppy I was given who is my trick dog. People even ask me if the mix and the newest parti Yorkie are siblings because they look so much alike! I am so glad I have taken in the 2 I did as I was told with both that they would be going to a shelter and I just couldn't see that happening. The first one was easy as we only had 1 other dog in the house. The 2nd one was a harder decision because we had 3 dogs already and she has seizure's. However, my husband and I discussed it and prayed about it and we felt that we could offer her so much in life so we did it. She is a doll. Well behaved and loving and even house broken too. I know not everyone has the opportunity to get a dog right before it is sent to a shelter but I had that chance twice and I am glad I took them in as they bring me such joy. I think it is great that people volunteer at a shelter. I wish I had more time to do that. I would want to take home every dog though!
