| OMG!! Welcome to our world!!! I JUST saw this on the national news.....OMG!! He rode the subway, while he was symptomatic!!!! He also KNEW what was going on...he just left Africa after working with ebola patients with Doctors Without Borders. This is exactly why we must close the borders to these countries....these people MUST be quarantined for 21 days if they are leaving these areas....I pray no one else gets the disease....this doctor did soooo much out in the public, while he was having symptoms.....like some on here have said, praying his viral load was minimal during the early stages of the disease, so all the people he exposed wont get it..... |

| Knowing he came back from treating Ebola patients in Africa, then he goes running around town until he's too sick to run around anymore. Wth? If we can't count on medical professionals that know the devastation of this disease, to take precautions after exposure, how the heck can we expect it of Joe Blow? Ridiculously scary!

| Sickening!!! I'm thinking he had a def agenda! He knows the risks and he knows exactly what he is doing! I hope they strip his license and that he hasnt infected anyone! They need to restrict flights and shut down that whole continent. |

| I completely agree, Kerryn! This Ebola crap has gotten too far out of hand. Wasn't it the nurse who was suppose to be in quarantine but went out around people? I could be wrong. Anyways, now this doctor comes back knowing what he had been around, walking around like it's nothing! |

| Totally! The nurses that came into contact with the infected patient both decide to travel! One on a plane and the other on a cruise ship! And now this dummy in NYC goes bowling and riding the subway! I mean I'm no rocket scientist, but I'd say that it's pretty obvious that if someone has been exposed to the body fluids of a person infected with Ebola, then maybe it would be a good idea to stay home alone and monitor yourself for symptoms! SMH! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I can't really fault this guy with a blanket statement. He was following protocol, from what I can tell. What I *do* fault him with is he apparently WAS feeling run down/fatigue in the days before he spiked his fever. In my opinion, once he felt run down, he should've self-quarantined at that point - to wait out to see whether or not add'l symptoms would emerge. Apparently 13% of ebola patients do *not* present with fever - which is scary, bc this means that people truly must be tuned in to their body's other less-obvious symptoms with ebola....and being "run down" would be one of those symptoms. This is where I think the doctor should've applied his knowledge of the larger symptom picture.

| http://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/pdf/infographic.pdf NY is prepared. He was quarantined appropriately, there is little to no risk to anyone other than him. We all need to educate ourselves about EBOLA, knowing even the basics would prevent the hysteria. I assure you New Yorkers are going about their business.... Contagiousness is when the viral load is heavier than what this dr had. I think we can all learn from Mr. Duncan who passed away, none of his many family or friends that were quarantined became infected, even when they laid beside him when his viral load was low/but contagious. We need to be aware and take all precautions just as we learned with H1N1 and Birdflu and Swineflu etc.,

| I'll bet Dr. Spencer didn't endanger anyone as his viral load was probably too low; but until Romero, Mukpo, Pham and Vinson's close contacts are cleared we don't know for sure the present viral strains from West Africa possibly mutated and changed its nature of infection. It's looking like there has been no mutations at all, though. Still, I wish after feeling fatigued or tired, both Vinson and he would have isolated themselves until clearing 21 days or safely getting into an Ebola-prepared hospital if they got sick. Vinson tried and likely the CDC and DCHHS' directions proved safe as they probably knew she probably wasn't infectious yet, but it's that "probably" and all of those words that hedge statements of so-called Ebola "facts" that government agencies, epidemiologists and infectious disease specialists and medical talking heads keep using that worry the public.

| If professionals that KNOW all about ebola, either because they have worked with sick and dying ebola patients, or they have been inserviced about the disease, if they are not responsible enough to self quarantined, then the "protocols" require tightening...especially because there are soooo many unknowns going on...they are essentially "guessing" about alot of the facts...is it 21 day incubation period, or actually 36 days, or even 48 days? The only fact that they have actually nailed down for now, is that it is not airborn.Professionals that know better, should know they are at the very least, causing fear in the population, and costing businesses millions of dollars because they lose business, or they have to close their doors, or they have to do unbelieveable cleaning measures, and city officials or whoever, have to run around, chasing down every single person the infected person exposed....this is crazy! CDC needs to require that anyone coming from countries where ebola is rampant, and especially health care workers that are directly in contact with infected patients, must be quarantined for a minimum of ??? 21-48 days....(someone needs to get this number accurately nailed down)??? It is clear people will not self isolate themselves, so in the best interest of the rest of the population/businesses in an area/city, it must be mandated. I will be real surprised if this man's girlfriend does not come down with it, simply because of the intimacy factor and the virus is shed in sperm earlier and for a longer period supposedly. |

NYC is doing a great job of handling this, however I do feel the doctor himself was negligent in exposing people needlessly. Heck, even jet lag alone would have kept me from doing all those things in 2 days. It's to bad NYC has the expense of chasing this all down.

| Just heard we had a man walk into an Urgent Care facility....like a public ER......in League City, sick and saying he had been traveling all over Africa. Oh GREAT!!! League City is about 7 miles down the freeway from me. Seems they packaged him up and rushed him to UTMB in Galveston....as I type this, he has been declared ebola free....not affected with the virus at all. ......at least not yet...... Linda, they are headed YOUR way!! |
