| Anyone else have this same problem with ipod/iphone/ipad? Yesterday when I was playing on my iPod (5th generation) I decided to update it to iOS 8. The screen then went dark and now showed a connect to iTunes picture. I connected it to iTunes and it told me that my iPod was in recovery mode and that i had no choice but to restart it (wipe all data off of it!). Unfortunately I didn't back up my ipod Has anyone else had this same problem? I tried the free trial of Wondershare Dr Fone and that will allow me to get all pictures/videos/contacts back but it will cost me $44.50 (originaly $100 but somewhere I saw a coupon to get it for $44.50), so that is my last option. Grr ... apple products ...

| Funny you say that....I still have the IPhone 4S and my daughter has the 5. She told me yesterday that there was a new update but to not update mine. She states that it's mainly for the IPhone 5. So I didn't update it. I have an Ipad and now I'm not sure about updating that because of what you said happened. I'll just wait and see if others have had the same problem as you.

| Ios 8 I have an IPad but it is only on IOS 7. I read on a Mac site somewhere that the IOS 8 system requires huge amounts of memory and that many people had to delete much of their photos and content in order to load the 8 . If that is the case it would be possible that weird things happen if you run out of memory after attempting to load the 8? Knowing this I would not load the 8 on my IPad! |

| My 2nd gen ipad is not doing well on iOS 8. Very slow and kind of just "freezes" At times. Not happy about it.

| I've not downloaded it yet. My ipad mini has been freezing ALOT lately running ios 7. I'm hoping ios 8 fixes the problem. I have plenty of storage on my ipad. My concern is my phone which has tons of photos, so thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to back up all my pics before i download it.

| I devices! My iPad 2 gave up the ghost after I dropped it recently and it was not recoverable and I thought I had lost everything. :-(( I did not knowingly back up my IPad content, but the Mac Genius was able to recover all from the Cloud and transfer to the replacement IPad. Yeh! It must have done an auto back up to the Cloud, but nowI make sure it is backed up on a regular basis. Whew that was a scary moment! |

| The day before I decided to back it up I saw in my email accounts (Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars) that I had a (insert apple id)@icloud.com so I'm hoping that maybe it backed it up? Where can you check Cloud?

| Cloud back up Hi. I am not much good at this computer stuff and do not know how the Apple Genius actually displayed and recovered the data from ICloud at the store. i was so overjoyed she did that I did not query her. However I do know how to back up on the Cloud if you have not done that. Under Settings, as you mentioned, there is an iCloud button above Mail etc. Hit the iCloud button and opposite you get a list under iCloud. At the bottom there is a button, Storage and backup. Press the right hand arrow and at the bottom it says Back Up Now. Press that and at least you know your data is backed up and can be recovered. :-) I assume though that it is auto backed up as I never did any known backup! As the free back up is limited I bought some extra backup space. It did not cost much. Good luck, hope you never need to recover the data. :-) Last edited by dottiesyrky; 09-20-2014 at 08:29 AM. |

| I did a free trial of Wondershare Dr Fone and it looks like it recovered all of my photos and videos, but I have to pay $50-100 -_- . I'm too afraid to press the "restore" button because I'm afraid that if I do that, then not even Wondershare Dr Fone can get my pictures/videos back. Right now my iPod is still stuck in the "connect to iTunes" screen so I can't access my iCloud to see if it backed up without pressing restore I'll try different apps such as TinyUmbrella, RecBoot, and if it still doesn't work, I'll bring it to the Apple Genius next weekend (Apple store is out-of-town). @dottiesyrky: Did you have to pay for the Apple Genius's assistance?

| I issues :-(( Sorry you are getting all this grief with your I-devices. I would hesitate to reset the device, as when I had my IPad issue I think the Genius said it would delete all my stuff. But if you pay the $100 and recover the data first it should be OK??? I don't know about IPhones or the WonderShare program, so I am no help LOL! But I am always nervous about resets etc as I don't know what will be deleted. If you can go to the store and get the Genius to fix it, it may be safer…they are great!!! My issue was very complex but she knew all the tricks of the trade and I was so happy with the outcome. You do not pay for the Genius but if you needed a part that may cost you. If you want to be sure and not wait I would go to Apple.com and schedule an appointment. Good Luck, these electronic gadgets can drive one NUTS!!! |

| Ios8 Good idea to wait! One issue is that it needs up to 5.8 Gigs of memory. |

| I tried using the Wondershare Dr Fone and found out that actually my iPod HAD backed up without me knowing it! Sometimes I like to plug in my iPod into my Macbook Pro for charging, so I guess it just automatically backed up. Last backup was 2 weeks ago and I didn't take pictures of anything important, so all the important videos/pictures are all there! =) Restoring my iPod right now and then I'll move all my pictures/videos from my computer to my iPod. Restoring takes 1 1/2 hours though.... *sigh* Wish me luck!!
