| Roomba suggestions? Hi all!!! I'm looking for advice. We want to get a Roomba but I can't seem to find too many reviews on one that is great for hardwood floors. Anyone here have one and absolutely love it? Please share! Thanks!

| My cousin has a pet roomba & it is huge but it's so awesome! Really cleans well, picks up all the hair from her kitty & King Charles Spaniel. I want one so bad, but I know my boys will not leave it alone...bark the whole time it's running & Momo will try to bite it like it's a giant moving toy. loll Hahaha, Love to see that!

| I have the 880, it wasn't cheap but it's great to know that 3 days a day while I am at work my floors are being cleaned!!! I have the invisable wall things that block off the food dishes because I learned the hard way the Roomba will push them across the floor splashing out the water.

| What do you know about lighthouses for the roomba? I have no idea what that is, but it is mentioned a lot online.

| Roomba I love mine and it is great for hard surfaces. I found that it only removes surface dirt from carpets and I need the regular vacuum as well for those. The nice thing is it picks up hairs and light particles that tend to accumulate on hard floors. If the floor is dirty the filter gets clogged up with the fine dust, the machine may shut off before it is done. I tend to check the dirt box and filter to check it is ok during the cleaning. The one bad issue I have is that it drives my dog crazy. He regards it as public enemy number one and tries hard to beat the doors down to get at it to kill it. So I only use it when he is out! I am not sure but I think the lighthouse is a light box and sensor system where the Roomba can be confined to a given area, and will not cross the light beam. I may be wrong, but could check the booklet if you want. All in all i think it is a great idea. |

| Thank you! I would appreciate any info as I'm confused as to what those lighthouses are.

| Oh I have wanted one for a long time, but the reviews are so mixed! I just wasn't sure if it would be worth the money.

| Lighthouse Hi. I have looked at more info on this, and if you go to irobot.com, home support, there is more detail. There is a VirtualWallLighthouse (VWLH) system that works with, I believe, some of the more expensive Roomba models. The VWLH is an accessory unit that works in two modes. 1 . Is the VW mode, where the unit emits a light beam ( across a doorway for example) and the Roomba will not cross it. It is in effect a Virtual Wall. 2. Is the VWLH mode, where the VW light beam can be turned on or off according to the auto mode setting, acting as a gate that can allow or stop the Roomba passing through the VW. This can allow the Roomba to clean one room for example, and when done the VW 'gate' opens and then it can go to another room. The irobot web site has diagrams that make it easier to understand. I only have the VW system that can stop the Roomba passing through an area, so have not used the other mode. I do not really see a big advantage to the Mode 2 operation as I found that using the VW alone was good enough for my use. Honestly I have not used the VW very often, if I want to confine the Roomba I just close the door! I am sorry if this sounds confusing but it is hard to explain without diagrams. If you need to go into this more perhaps a vendor of the Roomba could demo it for you? Or you might just get the basic model that does not use these extra gadgets? LOL! |

| Thank you so much!! That was a very good explanation. The reviews I was reading on other forums make so much more sense now. I do agree with you, physical door I can just close that to keep Roomba out. I'm super excited about this. My brothers will like that there is one less chore for all of us to worry about.

| Roomba Thank you, you are most welcome. With all the paw and foot traffic I find that I need to use the big vac on carpets and mop the hard floors now and again, as well as the Roomba. If you have only light soiling you may not need the extra cleaning. There are various models, I have the 650, and the model you choose will depend on what you need from the machine. The VW is not essential I found, and I just close a door or put down some mechanical barrier if I don't want the robot to go there. As I said before the dirt capacity and filter clogging limits the area it can cover before cleaning them out. Carpets tend to clog up the filter more quickly than the hard floors. It is easy to clean and worth doing frequently for more efficient operation. (Unless you have a very CLEAN house, LOL!) Good Luck and I am sure you will enjoy owning and using it. :-) |

| Thanks Dottiesky!!! I never thought to look for a Roomba at BB&B. 20% off would be great! I have all hardwood floors tgroughout the house. I do sweep everyday and mop once a week. The only place I don't sweep often is my brothers room. They'll be happy to have a roomba.

| Roomba Sounds like the perfect floors for it. Perhaps now you won't even need to mop and sweep, the crawling beast will keep it nice for you. :-) Good Luck and hope you get a 20% off coupon. |
