| Good Cop Story Tonight I was walking my Aunt to her car & I see something in the road, now it's around 9:30 P.M. & dark so I can't see exactly what it is but thinking it's a dog. I start walking in it's direction & start hearing some not so nice noise coming from it at about the same time I realize it's a dog & it's limping badly on it's rt front leg. Now, I'm ready to go to bed & in no mood to be trying to rescue an ungrateful dog who'd just as soon bite me as look at me & I now see that it's an injured PitBull . So now I know it's injured & am not about to let it go, for her safety & the Publics safety. My DH comes out looking for me just at the time I see she's injured & I had him bring me a bowl of water some dog food & treats. I started talking in my doggie rescue voice & she stopped talking ugly to me so I set down the water bowl about 2 ft from her & I backed up, still talking to her she limped over to the bowl & drank nearly all of it & proceeded to lay down in the middle of the street. Great, now I'm stuck standing in the middle of the street with this injured BLACK dog in the pitch dark. I sent my DH back in the house for the phone & I called the non-emergency # for the PD as that's what you do here where I live for a found dog. After about 20 min I had managed to coax her out of the street & on to my lawn with the treats at about the same time the Officer arrived (without a catch pole) UGH. I told the lady on the phone that she needed to make sure he had it as this dog was injured & NOT friendly. So out pops this very TALL & very intimidating (to the dog) officer with NO catch pole. To my surprise this man stayed with me for the next almost 3 hrs & did his best to help me catch this dog. He was not leaving till this dog was caught & safe. He finally called for another officer to go get the animal control truck & the catch pole. I could clearly see that he was nervous to get near her & don't blame him as now she'd directed her ugly tone towards him but at no time was he angry or irritated at the dog. He was very compassionate to her needs. Now, after the 1st hr he knew that she was just hurting & scared & wanted desperately to catch her so she could get the help she needed. We both discussed that she was actually a good little dog but definitely needed a better owner then she was dealt. So in the end I had gained her trust & was able to get the leash & then the catch pole on her. I only wanted the catch pole on her as I knew she wasn't going to just jump in the truck for him & feared things could turn ugly again at that time. Well by the time we started to walk her to the truck, she would not take her eyes off me & was trying to get away from him to get back to me so I asked him to hand me the pole & hang back a bit just till I got her to the truck so he did. Now were at the truck & he looks at me & said, this is the part I HATE. I said what ? putting her in the truck ? that's the easy part. He tells me yes but I can't do it without somewhat chocking her & I hate doing that. Now I'm knowing he's the most compassionate Cop I have ever dealt with. I asked him if I could just get in the truck, thinking she would jump in after me & he looked at me like I was crazy, lol. He finally agreed to let me try, so in I went & before I could get turned around in this little space meant for a med sized dog, she was in & had her head tucked tightly under my armpit. She was just a scared, injured dog who just needed some love & understanding & that Cop was definitely one of the rare . I kept my eye on him the whole time as I was afraid he might try to shoot her if she made 1 wrong move but the guy never had his hands near his waist, not once. I'm thinking I might put a Thank You to the nice Officer who went out of his way to help catch an injured dog, in the news paper. I didn't even get his name. Do you all think it might get him in trouble ? I have had other officers come out after animal control hrs & unless the dog will jump in their car willingly, they will do nothing to help & act like I just wasted their time. |

| Wow! Great story! He certainly raised the bar ... bc you don't know his name how could he get in trouble for a public 'Thankyou'?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Awwwwwwwww, you just made my day, thank you ! I loved this story, especially as pitties have a very soft spot in my heart. Thanks to you, your hubby, and that truly wonderful officer for taking all that time to help this sweet little being. BIG dose of good karma for you all! I totally think you should write your story to the newspaper, whether or not you have his name.

| Well he didn't actually end up being the only Officer here last night & I was Not impressed with the other one and since I called Dispatch, it's on record. Do you still think I should run the Public Thank You to him ? I would really hate for anything to bring attention to the Chief & then the next time I NEED help I may be stuck. Believe me when I say THEY FIND ME. They seem to know my address & make & model & license plate # of my van, not to mention the big neon sign over my door that says SUCKA lives her this is the place, that only they can see, lol. I swear, I don't care if it's an injures Dog, Cat, Bird they ALL find me. Anything that will cost me a Fortune to fix, they fine me. Why is this ? Today was a full house day for me with my Daycare & I didn't get to go to the Shelter to check up on her BUT tomorrow I am deff going to check on her. I am worried they mark her as a vicious dog and she's really not, she's just a little scardy cat. She is around 3 or 4 yrs old & just a little thing @ around 40 lbs, jet black with some white on her chest & on the tips of a couple of her toes. Even when she was talking ugly to me I could still read her beautiful eyes & they were telling me that she really didn't want to bite me. The worst part for me was her voice, she was growling through cries & I have never heard a dog do that and I mean through, not between. She broke my heart & I can't stop thinking about her & her future. I think she was hit by a car as the limp was very bad & the fronts of both of her front legs had road rash. Then when she jumped in the truck & tucked her head under my arm, I lost it. I felt like a rotten biotch for betraying her trust. OMG now I'm bawling again, I may have to go do a jail break tonight, UGH. Maybe her stupid owner bailed her out today, UGH. This was not an accidental outing either as last wk our worthless AC officer was across the street trying to catch her & what a joke that was as I watched him for at least a half hr & he never got out of his truck. If he comes to a call & the dog barks or growls at him, he WILL NOT get out of his truck. I have rescued many dogs & they spend the night in my basement & in the A.M. I call for a pick up & when he gets to my house, if the dog appears fearful of him at all, he has ME put the dog in the truck. I need to go apply for his job. Needless to say he never did catch her last wk. Last edited by lillymae; 07-29-2014 at 08:46 PM. |

| Wow...Your story brought tears in my eyes. There are some people who just do not need to have animals. Three to fours hours later you would have thought the owner would have been looking for their dog. I commend you and the officer....there are some that would not have done what you did especially because of the bad rap that pit bulls get all the time in the news. That poor dog was hurt, scared and who knows what else. However, she was very smart and trusted you to help her. I hope she is ok and doesn't have any bad injuries. If you go and see her tomorrow and she is still there can you update us on her? It is such a touching story!

| So she's still there They would not let me see her, not sure why because they used too. All they would tell me is that she is still there. They act like it's some big secret now & they never used to be that way, in fact I have had numerous owners call me Thanking me for rescuing their dog after I have taken them to the shelter. The lady didn't want to take my # to give to the owner if they come for her ???? I told her Oh that's nice , you will not let me know how the dog is but you have no problem giving the owner MY info. She tried to tell me they DON"T do that, huh. I asked her then where are these people getting my phone # ? Well I can tell you that they are thy ONLY way these owners could possibly get my info after I rescue it from the streets & take it to the shelter. I decided to run a LOST ad in the news paper after I came home from the Shelter today, but it will not start till tomorrow & run for a wk. The Vet came out while I was talking to the 2 women at the front desk & wanted to know how I caught her.. After I told her the story she I think deliberately in a round about way let me know she IS still there. She also informed the other 2 women that there is nothing that says they can't give the dogs owner my info. I just laughed & said Yeah, I thought so. So the Vet told me that she will see to it that IF the owner comes for the dog, the owner WILL get my info. I pray she gets to go home & I want to talk to the owner so that I can get their address & phone # and the dogs name, so if she gets out again then I can catch her myself now that she's trusting me. Then I can call them myself & not need to have an Officer out for 3 hrs waisting his time.. Monday will be the end of her HOLD so I will go then to see if she's still there. IDK what I'm going to do if she is as I can't keep her. I'm going to start searching for a Pit rescue in my area tonight just incase. This little Pittie Girl needs some serious prayers. |

| Thank you for the update. Wow....You would have thought, since you were the one that helped the poor dog and she trusted you that they could have of at least let you see her. At least you know she is still there and that the vet came out and talked to you. Hahaha...She also put those two ladies in their place. I think it's great that you put an ad in the paper. Hopefully her owners will come and get her and call you. Such a shame she has to be there...she probably is so scared. Sending my prayers her way!

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Aww what a sad story. . . It is wonderful that you were able to rescue her from the streets. Sad that no one has claimed her.

| No calls so far on my found ad. I am praying her owner/s have picked her up from the shelter. I will go back to the shelter after the 7 day hold period ends to see if she's there & IF she is, I have located a couple of pittie rescues. The closest rescue to me is Boise & they will not come for her so I will have to drive her there myself @ about a 6 hr drive one way but saving her will be well worth it to me. The shelter here in Lewiston doesn't really do any kind of screening & with her issues of fear, I would prefer she be with a Pit rescue. I'll update when the hold is up & I see if she's still there. |

YT 2000 Club Member | dog You are a true dog lover! I am married to a CHP officer and I know that anytime a police officer does a good job and gets an atta boy in writing that really is appreciated. You should definitely let his office know what he did. I am so proud of you for rescuing a dog that could have been dead from a car. I always stop and try to rescue a stray dog. Blessings will come to you!@ |

| Update The little Princess IS still at the Shelter. She has been spayed & is up for adoption & vet said she's had puppies My DH went to check today as I have not been able to get away myself to check on her. He said she is still very fearful but mostly of men. The good news is that the Shelter here is a No Kill so she has a chance to find a good home & they do some screening as well. My DH & I will keep checking on her & if she does not get adopted in a timely manner & if she starts to show signs of getting kennel crazy then I will get her to a Pit Rescue. The shelter here is not too big & there LOTS of volunteers who go to Play with the dogs, also they have a very large fenced in yard for the dogs to run & exercise & visit with other dog friendly dogs, so it's not too bad of a place. I have been there often & the dogs do not appear fearful or depressed as in most shelters, just looking forward to visitors & treats. |
