What do you think about this?

The bond the two of them have is incredible but is it fair Whisper seems to love it seeing the reaction once they were down but should he put the dog he loves in danger. I once thought if something happened to me, I would worry about the hands she might get into and maybe he feels if he is killed, he would want it to be both of them in the back of his mind however, up front he just wants this dog he loves to experience the jump he finds so marvelous?

There is certainly something to be said for living each day to the fullest.

WOW, interesting. Base jumping alone fascinates me. I'm totally conflicted about this -- on one hand, I think "cool" -- but on the other, it really freaks me out for the dog bc I can't help but wonder if he was terrified during it or not...and you couldn't tell bc he was totally strapped down/in.

I am too Ann. We are asked to make so many decisions for our dogs throughout their lives, however, I don't like the danger he is putting Whisper in and yet the relationship the two have if owner were to be killed could be something the dog would never get over as we have seen dogs that stay at a grave site with people having to bring food and water I get the feeling that this is their whole life and it gets a bit much when your life doesn't involve other love ones and other interests. It's his life though and I think he truly loves the dog and probably thinks it's even more safe than driving a car.

If that were not the case, it is selfish.

Wow that was amazing! I can not imagine doing this my ownself never mind with a dog on my back!

It did look like he had a female friend with him at the jump takeoff/landing area.

I think I take a risk when I go hiking with my dogs especially on steep and narrow trails, but nothing like this guy does! I will say though that if you are an outdoor enthusiast actively pursuing your life, nothing is better than to do it with your dog! I am already looking forward to this summers vacation, because I want to teach Magic to swim beside my paddle boat. At the end of last summer he voluntarily started to swim beside my boat, so this summer I want to emphasize that. It will be a good change from the dock diving

That sounds like such fun for both you and Magic. Crystal's greatest love but not at all scary was visiting the children at Children's hospital.

This makes me think of the day they gave us a couple ideas on how to handle a fire with no thought of dogs. I told my friends I would put a pillow on top of her (not over her face) and one on the bottom and tie them to her and then drop her from the second floor, one asked what about yourself and I said I never gave a thought to that.

I don't know.... A person can make their own decision if they want to do BASE jumping or not. A dog cannot.

Then again, Smoky the famous yorkie in the army parachuted by herself, so who knows. Maybe some dogs do enjoy the thrill.

I feel conflicted when I see pics of service dogs -- military and police -- doing dangerous things, but at least it is in service and not just for thrills. When I see pics of dogs surfboarding and what not, I think it is cute, but always worry about the risk.

I think the overall question is "do humans have the right" to make decisions for their dogs life, and the risks they have "decided" to put their dogs to.

If they have the right - is it carte blanche - or only under certain circumstances? Such as end of life decisions, such as service work, guard protection, seeing eye dogs, epilepsy dogs etc.

My conflict only comes when I see a dog NOT enjoying what they are engaged in. And of course I can't judge this by only one viewing.

For example I think it is a hell of a lot riskier to drive your car with a dog with no safety "belt" - be it crate, harness, what-ever; but millions of Americans do this every single day.

We have child seat/seatbelt laws in Canada, and I think too the USA, why not dog seat belt laws?

I am conflicted on this as well. And I would say I am more of a risk taker with Jackson than a lot of folks on YT are. I let him jump, climb, swim, to his hearts desire and more... but this video has me conflicted. It is honestly too hard to tell if the dog is actually enjoying herself or not. ACD's are known to be very 'hard' and 'on' type dogs so it very well could have the personality to enjoy it. But I dunno.

I agree with Gail that it can be incredible to do something you love or are passionate about with your dog. But I'm on the fence with this one.

I've, seen many dogs jumped, most in open front harness where they get the full airflow of 95-120+ MPH, Whisper had a first class set up and probably loved it. Never saw one jumped that looked stressed, just another day with the boss, plus they love all the attention they get from other jumpers on the ride to altitude.


Military has jumping dogs too, some have their own rig and solo.
