| I am approximately the same height and weight as you but add 32 years; 2+ weeks ago, I started a workout program. I love food and drink, so my goal is to burn more calories than I take in. I don't really want to change my eating habits, so now, every morning after work, I sweat for 30 minutes. I have lost about 6 lbs so far. Not great, but my goal is 160lbs by May. Good luck! Would like to hear your progress. I will agree with everyone who has said that the older you get, the harder it is to get back off. Oh yeah, welcome to YT!

| The only suggestion I have is to exercise if you can and find some kind of program that appeals to you like Weight Watchers or TOPS to give you some emotional support and nutrition advice. I am a lifetime member of Weight Watchers and find it's probably one of the most successful programs I know of. It can be a little expensive, I think the meetings are around $13 a week but you get so much out of going to a weekly meeting and being accountable when you weigh in every week. Good luck on your journey.

| I routinely weigh 122 or so but years back I reached 156 and had to restructure how I handled food. I quickly learned that I didn't need half the food I found I was eating and just halved my portions and realized initially that I would have to learn to deal with the still feeling "hunger" or empty after my meal was finished for about 10 - 20 minutes. Then, I would feel full, even on half portions or less, and learned that I didn't need to keep eating until I felt full and that if I did, I overeat. By simply training my stomach to wait for the full feeling to come, I would brew freshly ground excellent quality coffee and have it after meals and wait for the full feeling. I learned a lesson that one never eats until feeling full or you fill up on way too many calories and un-needed food and gain weight. But the great thing is is that over time, I began to feel full by the end of my meals, even on the half portions and feel fully satisfied by enough - and not too much - food. Never have had a weight problem since. A sort of trick I learned during that weight-loss program was I filled up a lot on soup for lunch and dinner also prior to eating the entree. Plain soups are usually lower in calories and fill one up. I still love soup today and still even snack on soup, by choice, rather than cakes or cookies and never get a sugar low later. A cup of soup of warm and filling and usually very low in calories if you need a pick-me-up or get hungry between meals.

| I have had a weight problem my entire life.....I have LIVED on a diet since I was a teenager. The short, quick answer to your problem is you need to expend more calories than you take in. That means counting calories of everything you put into your mouth, and then stepping up your exercise routine to burn calories off. You will need to determine how many calories you can allot yourself daily, and you do not go over that number of calories. It always helped me to eat 5 small meals per day....my last "meal" of the day is before 6pm (a piece of chicken or fish, salad, fruit), and I always have my protein smoothie for a bedtime snack (easily digested, and keeps me from getting hungry during the night) Eating protein packed meals will keep you feeling full......eat more veggies and fruit, drink plenty of water/fluids, and devbelop some kind of exercise routine you enjoy, so you will want to keep it up! Good luck with your adventure! Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 03-10-2014 at 06:47 AM. |

| A couple of things I forgot to say: I personally HATE drinking water, so I keep unsweetened iced tea on hand continously, and I have realized I like to drink warm water better than cold water.... I also picked 2 days a week where we do only veggies and fruit.... |

| My daughter was 150 at about 5' 3" tall. She is also 15. She is down to 142 just from walking home from school everyday since we have moved walking distance to her school. You are young. It shouldn't take much to get the weight to start coming off. |

| When I was 38 yrs old, I used to weigh 208lb, 5'8".. had borderline diabetic, gout, vertigo and high blood pressure. Doctor said I better do something or he was going to put me on medication. I started taking Shotokan Karate, ate more fruit, veggies, and less carbs like rice and bread. in about a 8 months, I dropped down to 184lbs. Still lover steaks, pork, meats.. I just eat in moderation.. also a grapefruit every night. Now I have more energy.. taking the Karate at least twice a week, 1.5-2 hr sessions, the energy of the class keeps you going and not tire.. I'm now 43 and stronger than I was when I was in my 20's |

I'm 48 and at my heaviest I was 192 at 5.4" and went up and down every few months. Boy do I love to eat, I use to clean the dinner plates by eating a lot of it as I cleared the table. I always have even as I young girl growing up but it wasn't until my late 20s when that habit became an issue and my weight started to bloom. From my 20s I had two children and never lost the weight. So now in my 40s I finally decided that I had had enough of the yo yo effect with my weight and was going to loose weight. I cut out chocolate which was a huge part of my daily diet and replaced it with granola and healthy snack bars and use portion control when it came to meals. I had a small breakfast, I cut out lunch all together and than had half the portion during dinner and in no time the lbs started to drop. Now three years later I am at my lowest weight since before my first child was born almost 21 yrs ago. I am now 162 which is a huge loss for me since I was once close to 200 myself. I like to say that after 21 yrs I have finally lost my baby weight . . Ps. I still sneak a few chocolate every now and than. I keep a stash during those need to have moments during the month. I wish you luck, just remember to set small weight goals and not to get down if you don't loos a lot at first. That not always the healthiest thing to do. It takes time, patience and most of all dedication.

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Some safe and fast ways to lose weight: If you drink sugary drinks like Coke or anything sweetened, cut those out of your life completely. This alone can have a really dramatic effect and help you to shed pounds/lose bloat. Drink green tea. Read the labels carefully to make sure it is real green tea and not just a flavored drink. This can help boost your metabolism and curb your appetite. I prefer the hot green tea with lemon. As suggested above, walk everywhere you can. Take the stairs whenever you can. Clean house or do anything that requires moving your body. A gym workout isn't necessary, although stretching is really good. Watch videos on YouTube to learn proper stretching/yoga techniques. Eat as much "real" food as possible. Avoid processed foods. Skip the "diet" foods that don't fill you up, like diet frozen dinners or diet cookies. Most of the time people end up eating twice as much and are still left unsatisfied. Real food boosts your metabolism so that you burn more calories faster. Limit the amount of bread and pasta. Aim for more meats and veggies. Best wishes in reaching your goal.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | A lot of good advice. I do not have a weight problem but I have always done portion control. As I got older it was harder to maintain my weight so I started exercising 8 years ago. I do a Zumba class 2 times a week and try and walk 4 miles 2 days a week. I would enlist your Mom's help and maybe a visit to your doctor to come up with a good healthy way to lose the weight. Maybe you can bring your lunch a couple days a week too. Good luck!
