| suspicious activity I was coming home from work, and as I was about to pull into my driveway, I saw a car backed up to the side of my garage, where my trailer is. I turned into my driveway & the car pulled forward. My window was down & so was the guy's driving. He said he just pulled in to turn around. I said it's rather strange that you'd pull this far up my driveway. He said he didn't want to back out onto the road. There were two guys in the car. And the car had a hitch on it. I got the license plate & called my local police. They said the plate does not match the vehicle. How suspicious is that?

| Oh, wow. That does sound super suspicious and especially the likely stolen plates! I'll bet they were just about to hook them up a trailer and drive off. Is there an anti-theft device of any kind on your trailer that can warn you or park it elsewhere? If they come back tonight and you are asleep, yikes.

| Very suss. Is your trailer locked, ie have wheel locks? Hope they don't bother coming back and get also that they get caught. Can't stand thieves.

| Very suspicious! Great job getting the plates. Sounds very much like they were going after your trailer. We have had a lot of unusual people driving pickups through our neighborhood lately, many are looking for work. I don't leave the garage doors open or our lawn mower or tools out unattended anymore when I take breaks from working. Our neighborhood has had thefts in broad daylight.

| Yes, I have a lock on the trailer hitch, but it's such a light weight open trailer (for home depot DIY runs) that someone could easily just tie it to a hitch with rope and pull it away. I'm going to turn it around tomorrow, so you can't back right up to it hitch it & drive way. I'm kicking myself thinking about what happened & how I responded, though. I was in such a 'who the hell is in my driveway' attitude, that I didn't THINK. In hindsight, the position of the vehicle off to the side of the driveway, not where you'd actually turn around, was so suspicious, I should have just drove by, and pulled over down the street & watched.

| I think you did the right thing..no matter if you have hindsight. You prevented a theft of your property and very likely deterred them from coming back. You've seen them. They won't come back. As soon as you said the guy told you he was turning around in your driveway, I sat up in my chair because something similar happened to me a few months after moving into this house. I leave for work at the same time every day. Well, this one day, I went to the drugstore first. It is in the opposite direction of work and I live on Main Street..sooo, I had to drive back by my house on the way to work. I had already decided to stop and drop off something at the house so I slowed down to pull LEFT into my driveway at the EXACT moment that a truck was pulling RIGHT into my driveway. He pulled pretty far up my long driveway and then put it in reverse. Like, he suddenly realized *I* was right behind him. I got out and asked if I could help him and he said, "Oh, I was just turning around." Look at it like this...same as with me...You were MEANT to be there right then and right there. I have no doubt in my mind. If you had waited and just watched, there is no telling what might have happened..it may have ended dangerously for you. You did the right thing

| No doubt they were up to no good. You did a good job getting their tag #. One of our local police departments has license plate scanners in their cars that can read a tag in one second. Maybe yours does too. Hopefully, they'll catch these guys. Let's hope they don't come back for a second try. Please be on the watch & be careful! |

| Please don't ever get out & confront the person. That's very dangerous. There was a man here that did that & the thief shot him dead right in his own driveway at 9:30 in the morning. Thank heavens the man lived long enough to get back into his truck & write down the guy's tag# but the thief didn't know that. So, when the police found the # scribbled on a piece of paper, they traced the tag# to the killer. We tried him & got him put away for a long, long time. Of course that was not the only evidence we had. The thief was also found in possession of a good bit of the man's property----silver, etc. Last edited by dalady25; 07-09-2013 at 04:35 PM. | Good idea to turn the trailer around. So glad you came home when you did. They were thieves of opportunity.

| My Glock is always loaded I called two of my neighbors to let them know about the incident. One neighbor, right next door, saw the car in my driveway and wondered what they were doing there...then she saw me pull in a couple of minutes later & figured I had a friend visiting and he was waiting for me to arrive home from work. But speaking of firearms, it turns out I'm surrounded by them! I know it's hypocritical, but I feel safer with mine...but I'm not sure I feel safer knowing how many my neighbors have them My one neighbor, who works as a contractor, has a lot of valuable tools and when I told him what happened, he asked me if I had a gun, then proceeded to tell me about all the rifles, glocks & sigs he owns. It wasn't as reassuring as I thought it would be.
