| I grow cherry tomatoes and also grape tomatoes. I just plant them in an area that gets plenty of sun. I stake then while they are small. As they grow just continue to tie them to the stake. I feed them a little Miracle Grow once in awhile. I don't do anything special or fuss over them. Good luck with yours and enjoy them!! |

| Thank you, I have a question. How much do you water them? I bought a small plant a couple of weeks ago, it's on my balcony. I try to water the plant every morning but I'm not sure if I'm watering it enough because the tomatoes are still growing but the leafs fell out

I did try growing cherry tomatoes - I think the plant produced maybe 4 tomatoes the whole summer (they never did turn really red, sort of remained that greenish colour). And then I saw a bird poop on them and that was the end of my horticultural shenanigans.... I really wish you a million times more luck with your cherry tomatoes! Sally x

| The only luck I ever have with plants of any type is in my vegetable garden. I grow a few varieties of tomatos and what I've found is that they need a lot of sun and- unless it is REALLY hot out- do not water them every day.

| Funny posts here Cindersellie and Sally, I used to be one notorious killer too! Impressively enough, Since we moved to a new house (2 years ago) I've become better and they are all alive Deb and Amanda, I don't know why I thought "hmm, water them more because the leaves are falling out" (stupid..) They get sun everyday (when there is some sun here..) I'll water them less from now on..3 times a week is enough? It's my first vegetable plant, I have no clue on what to do or how to take care of it

| I know this does not exactly answer you question, but for anyone that likes the small cherry tomatoes I thought you might like to know about a variety I recently started buying. I was always surprised that even though the cherry or grape tomatoes are small most of the plants grow very tall and need to be staked and can be hard to manage in a small space. A few years ago I came across a plant called tumbling tom. I have had easy luck growing it in a 9-12" patio pot on standard height plant stand. It winds up spreading out a bit like the shape of a petunia pot but it does not grow long where it reaches the floor. It constantly puts out tomatoes well until the fall, like all tomatoes it does require good sun to produce a lot of fruit. It's not even a bad looking plant so I have it on my front porch mixed in with my flower pots. I have only found this variety in one of the more expensive type of garden stores that sell a LOT of varieties of vegetable plants, growers at my farmers market had not even heard of it.

I planted a large hanging basket with just one plant, so it had plenty of space to grow, expecting a beautiful cascade of jewel-like tiny tumbling toms....I even fed them 'Tomorite'.... Just goes to show - it's ME - Andy's right.... Sally x

| after I made my first post I decided to goggle Tumbling Tom, I was surprised to read people saying they did not like the taste, I thought they tasted very good, perhaps not as great as super ripe homegrown beefsteak, but pretty darn good to me,

| I've never heard of the tumbling tom. I'll check it out. I think it's because we don't get much sun (just like you said )
