| what should I do I was asked by an accountant that I did some work for last year to work for him again this year during the busy season. I was very glad to hear from him so I said yes....in telling him I would work for him I had to tell 4 other accountants that I could not work for them. This is only a 2days a week job. When I started working for him (last week) he then told me that he hired another person...now instead of coming in 2days per week there is only work for one day a week until he gets very busy. By the time he gets busy enough to give me the extra day I was supposed to get to begin with most of the busy season will be over and I will have lost out on making all that money. I am going to work for him tomorrow cause he owes me for the one day I worked last week and I'll also get paid for tomorrow. Last week when I got home I was so pis%ed of that I emailed him and told him pretty nicely that I can not hold the extra day open for him for when he "might" need me. He sent me an email back this week agreeing to a definate one day a week. I am still very angry about this and every day I am checking the job adds for more work. But even if I don't find the work right away I have a good mind to tell him I can not come in any more after tomorrow. Just so that he will have a more difficult time with out me there. I do have some other work besides his but I was planning on making x number of dollars this busy season and now I am one day short of the funds I planned on and if I leave him all together I will be 2 days short till I get something else.. But even though....I am feeling like why not just forget my plan for now and just not do his work and wait till I find some work to fill the days I was going to work for him. Whew that was long...sorry for the lenght but it was hard to explaine. I would like your comments on what would you do if you were in my shoes....take his measly one day or tell him to pack it! I really feel he screwed me and was only and obviousy thinking of him self with no loyalty to me. I would not have done that to him. Thanks in advance for your help....btw the money does matter (but I am also a fighter, lol). Tina

| Depends on how much you need the money from the one day. As my Grandmother used to say "Don't cut off your nose to spite your face". If you need the money stay but look for a job to replace the one day job. You owe him no loyalty since he reneged on your original deal. Check with the other 4 accountants you never know. Let them know you were being loyal to a past employer but he changed the deal. Sorry about the bum deal. Best wishes.

| Wow, that kind of stinks and I can see why you feel the way you do. Do you have a contract that binds you to the one day a week? If not, you could go ahead and work the one day and if you find something else that you prefer you could just give him notice - I would make the notice equal to the notice he gave you about changing you from one to two days

How many times have I heard the same phrase from my mother and grandmother!! And my first spur of the moment reaction was to give him the same speech YOU had conjured up..... But, with THAT in mind, I (Judy-No-Nose!) would go with THIS plan above. Loyality often comes with a price that is hard to pay, and while YOU did the right thing, he certainly did not....and it may actually work out best in YOUR favor.....contact those other opportunities you had and mention the loyality factor to them....God dont like ugly, and you will come out ahead in this game. | |

| I'd contact the 4 people you had to turn down and ask them if they still need help, at least 1 day a week if not 2.... if any of them need 2, then leave this guy and go there.. but maybe one of them will need 1 day a week, and then you'll be working 2 days. I'd at least keep the 1 day a week because he'll just have the other person work both days and it won't hurt him, but 1 day for you is better than 0 days anyways, right? Keep looking for a place that will give you 2 days in the meantime.

| Hi All..... Thanks for your responses. i worked for this guy today and I think he is kinda scared that I will not come back any more and I think he understands now the magnitude of his actions. But that dosen't pay my bills.... I have decided to stay for the one day a week and look for more work. Unfortuantely for me most of the hiring is already done for the busy season but I might find a straggler around who things didn't work out for him and he still needs someone ...then I will give him one day if that would work out. But I really appreciate your help and understanding. Things might just work out better this way in the long run. Well it's Valentine's Day and I celebrate both my furbutts birthdays on Feb 14th every year. So I am on my way to light a candle on a small piece of white cake for each of them...of course I get the chocolate icing, lol. C ya 4 now..... tina
