| Cancer surrounds me I can not believe how many people in my life have either died or have serious cancer It started with my Cousin Robert he died at 40 with brain cancer, I only had two cousins so now I just have one. Then my Best friend's husband died of the same brain cancer at 60 GF from our boat club died at 40 from jaw cancer Friend from the gym died of pancreatic cancer 58 DH's close friend died of Leukemia 40's In the last week, two close friend in their early 50's just went into hospice care 1 with bile duct cancer and the other with leukemia My sisters husband at 53 has rectal cancer SIL had thyrohyoid cancer (DH's sister) 40's Two other gf's also had tyroid cancer 40's GF had breast cancer 40's Next door neighbor just had masectomy 50's And the sad part is I know I am missing some people This bothers me, I think about it a lot. My friends that are in hospice now were both extremely athletic. they snow skied. water skied, ran, rode bikes, and ate very healthy. One lives on my lake the other the next lake over, we socialize or used to with them a lot. I used to think when you get old it's natural to start loosing friends but everyone I mentioned was under 60 and most in their 40's or early 50's. I assume I am not the only one that knows so many people with cancer but it is sad and scary to wonder who will be next

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | It is sad. I personally think that a lot of it has to do with all of the stuff we eat and use around us. The amount of chemicals we put in our bodies is nuts. I try to eat whole foods as much as possible. No diet foods, no TV dinners. . . I do like a White Castle or two I think our bodies really can not handle all of these foreign things. Our grandparents did not eat all these processed foods. They did not have all these cancers that they have today.

YT 2000 Club Member | I share the same concerns as you do. There is just too much cancer today. I am a cancer survivor and so is my husband! We both have learned through all this to enjoy the day and thank God for the health we have. There is nothing one can do to avoid this. I just believe our lives are in God's hands and when that roll is called up yonder we will go home. I was in great athletic shape, ate healthy, and had cancer at 49. People who are vegans get cancer. People who watch every move they make and every food they eat get it. Why not just love God, love people and enjoy our day! Tomorrow may bring trials but we know from scripture in this world we will have tribulation but be of good cheer because Jesus has overcome this world and its sorrows! Nothing can take our joy away, no sickness or sadness. We look up when things are going down because this is not our home-heaven is. Last edited by sandy simpson; 01-25-2013 at 07:42 AM. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It's very scary . My Mom died of cancer when she was 44 (she got sick at 42). I was only 19-21 at the time...very devastating, to say the very least. Now, I'm 44. Even though I knew, intellectually, that '44' was young for her to die -- it was only as I aged that I fully realized just HOW young this age is. My God, it's just soooo horribly young.

| That's a long list of pain and loss. It's got to get so wearing to see one after one person you know well and care about going through the tough, often harsh treatment modes, the heartbreak of hospice and then the loss of that person. I imagine after the first two or three, you begin to really have a very hard time processing all of that distress and sadness. I'm so sorry this horrible disease has robbed you of so many people that meant so much to you. That kind of loss has got to take a toll.

| That's so sad, and I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost both my grandmothers to cancer and my step father's mother, aunt and his cousin's wife. My best friend had thyroid cancer, my brother's old roommate had leukemia (neither of them died, but had to fight it), my own brother still in his 20s had a tumor in his brain that was cancerous, they got it out and he is healthy today, THANK GOD!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | That is so many people to die or be sick with cancer. It is so scary, they talk about all the advances they are making in cancer research but it seems more than ever people are getting it and not surviving. We really have to be thankful for each day we are healthy. I am sorry you have been so touched by this terrible disease.

| So sorry. There is no better way to say it but cancer sucks. Lost my dad's parents both to cancer that had taken over there bodies completely, my dad had thyroid cancer a few years ago, Grandpa has pre prostate cancer, one of the dogs I grew up with had to be put to sleep and they suspected he was eaten up with cancer and I feel like I am forgetting some one. When I would get my iron transfusions it was in the cancer care center and I would cry every time I came out of there because of all the very sick a frail looking people in there with cancer. I hate hate hate cancer!

YT Addict | I feel the same way. I was diagnosed with breast cancer last March and there are 5 other women in my subdivision that have had cancer that I know of. It's very scary! Even though we are more of a rural area we have some industrial areas and a refinery several miles away. That nasty smoke blows our way quite a bit. I also have many family members who have had cancer. I lost my mom to thyroid cancer when I was in my twenties The worst thing for me is when I hear of children with cancer. It's just so wrong. We need a cure now!

| [QUOTE=Patti;4116528]That is so many people to die or be sick with cancer. It is so scary, they talk about all the advances they are making in cancer research but it seems more than ever people are getting it and not surviving. QUOTE] This is how I think as well, so much research and money has been spent, but it seems like so many people can not be cured and that cancer is on the rise. Most of what I see is that the drugs and research only prolong life and not in a quality way. My friend that died from the gym was from Germany and her husband had passed away about 4 months before she got sick, she had no one to help her. We all pitched in and took her to appointments, did chores, cooked meals and so forth. She went through so much, I had been cleaning her house the day she got the news that nothing was working and she would be gone soon. I told her how strong she was and how hard she fought and she looked at me through tears and a bit of anger and said for what, what good did it do. She died two days later. My friend Mary Kay got the news on the way to play golf that she had to go immediately to the hospital, within two days she was on her first of 6 weekly rounds of chemo, then she had a bone marrow transplant from her sister who was a very strong match but then the cancer cells just kept coming back and the new bone marrow was no match for it. On Christmas eve she got the news that the blood cancer cells was spreading rapidly and was told another round of chemo would be started, in the middle of that she had a heart attack because the chemo was wrecking her heart. So they took her off it and sent her home and into hospice care. Her first treatment was the end of July and now she is just laying there waiting to die. I think of Michele here and boy has that gal been through so much, and now she is gone from YT because it's probably to much for her to manage. I know so many of you have been touched over and over by cancer, and Taylor is right it just sucks and sucks and sucks. Not really sure why I am typing all this but I guess I just realized how much it is getting to me. Thanks for listening and I am so sorry for everyone elses losses
