| Since we are crazy enough.... .... we started our kitchen remodel this past week. HAHA My mom left Tuesday morning from her holiday vacation here, by Tuesday night we had the Peninsula torn out of the kitchen and an island created with the middle 4 ft of cabinet. We tore out the trash compactor and put it in the garage. My brother tore out the part of the floor we are going to tile yesterday. He's going to put a 24 inch cabinet along the back wall and secure the island to the floor, then Saturday or Friday night, hubby and I are going back to Lowes to order the granite counter top. My brother is replacing all the electrical outlets and light switches with white ones today and finishing tearing off the back splash and the rest of the counters today. We are in a freakin mess!! We wanted to put new cabinets in and change the arrangement of the kitchen but I think its going to be too much money for a house we are talking about selling in 2 years or less. I am just hoping this 'update' and 'facelift' will help to add value to the house and make it more appealing to sell. The old cabinets are in good shape and we are repainting them to this super light grey color (you'd think it was white if you didn't see it next to the color white). Wish us LUCK!!! Its going to be a LONG winter/spring for us, as this is going to take months to complete, but my brother is laid off so he's working there almost full time, so the timing was perfect! Also his labor is CHEAP! woohooo Hes a civil engineer too, so he knows what hes doing and he does great work! We are super lucky!!! Check out the new layout!

| I've been remodeling my kitchen for almost two years now...and I'm still not DONE I love DIY and I've been doing it completely by myself (other than the granite install). I now am at the point where I just need to tile the backsplash, but am having a heck of a time finding something I like. And I also need to patch a hole in the oak flooring, from a last minute change in floor layout, that left an exposed heating vent hole right in the middle of my kitchen. I love everything I've done so far....just can't wait for it to be done. It's hard finding the time to complete it & keep up on regular house chores, while working full time. Good luck with your project & keep us updated with pics

| Wow, it's looking great. Can't wait to see it when it's completed. Your kitchen layout is almost exactly like mine. The only thing different in mine is the cabinet section on the left side of your sink in my kitchen is on the right. Everything else is in the very same place, even the window above my sink, appliances, and the diagonal island. Maybe I should hire your brother to do a little updating in my kitchen when he's done with yours.

| My bro needs some work!!! LOL I don't know how far he'd travel for it though! He's a civil engineer, so you'd be getting a pretty good and trained laborer for sure! I'm very thrilled so far!!! We've got a long ways to go for sure... Once the Cabinets are finished, the counter tops in, the electric updated and fixed, the back splash in, and the tile floor installed, then we can breathe a sigh of relief... we won't be done at all because we'll still need to paint, hang curtains, spray the heaters with white rustoleum to make them white and non-rusted looking, install the waines coating around the island, some baseboard around the island, some crown molding around the top of the cabinets.. theres probably always going to be little things to do, but I hope the bulk is done within a month or so we can use our kitchen again. Its going to be soooo amazing!!! Our house is about 60 years old and it looks it. My husbands parents owned it for about 10 years before my husband bought it. They did some maintenance to it, but no real updating to it. They put in all new flooring which we are taking out now because it's almost 15 years old now and needs to come out. They did a major overhaul on the inground pool and they enclosed 2 back porches and other random things, new windows in some of the house, new siding. This house is REALLY a fixer upper. Everything in the house was well maintained (or should I say preserved? LOL) but it really really needs updating. To date, in the 5 years my husband has owned it we have done sooo much to it. And we are pretty proud we have no debt from it. We limit our projects and know that its going to take many years of constant renovations to get it up to par. We try to take summers off so we can enjoy the 3 months without a large project pressing on it. So far we have: - put a large cut out window between the kitchen and living room to let more light into the kitchen - put all stainless steel appliances in the kitchen - completely gutted the master bath and main bath and made the master bath big enough to fit a tub (used to only have a shower) and the main bath smaller (it was huge!) both were completely remodeled and rebuilt. - Screened in the porch off the side of the house to make a nice area for dining on summer nights or hanging out where we can be outside w/o getting eaten alive by the mosquitoes. - Replaced all the ceiling fans in the house since they were saggy. - Painted over the dark paneling in the hallway and going down the basement stairs to brighten it up - replaced the living room floors with laminate wood flooring instead of carpet - Put a whole house water softening/filtration system in - Built stairs going from the driveway area down to the pool area so people didn't have to go all the way around the fence to the gate. - not to mention we've just about painted every room over again lighter and brighter This year after we finish the kitchen, I want to replace the basement stairs with hardwood stairs since now they are carpeted and the carpet is gross looking, and I want to put a laminate floor in our bedroom and get rid of the carpet that the dogs have ruined.

| I can't wait to see the finished project. Did you order your counters? I am also going with granite from Lowes, but I just can't decide on the color. We're actually going to the stone quarry tomorrow to pick out our slab so I know for sure what it will look like. Good Luck- seems like your making great progress!

| Yellow & green, huh? I actually like those colours....but probably not those 1970's shades. My bathroom in my wee house had an interesting colour scheme too. A PINK bathtub, a white toilet and green tile on EVERY wall...3/4 of the way up EVERY wall. yeah....that room was got gutted down to the studs!!! What are you doing for your backsplash on your counters? That's where I'm held up at on my kitchen project.

| I will soon be joining you in the woes of kitchen remodeling. That is my top priority for 2013 and I am designing it now, and looking at samples. I have remodeled the rest of my house over the last 2 years, and after a much needed break I am ready to finish up by doing the kitchen. The inconvenience and mess will be worth it.

| Good luck with your remodel. I imagine you will have fond memories of this time, years from now. (At least we did. I especially remember having to go out to the refrigerator in the unattached garage for two months. Ahhh!) |

| Lisa, that reminds me of a previous kitchen remodel, but my fridge was in the family room, and next to it a table with a crock pot and microwave. Had to wash dishes in the bathroom sink for 4 months. It does make you get creative I kind of like the idea of the fridge in the garage. That might be a helpful diet aid.

| Kitchen remodel tips we've gotten: Buy a nuwave to cook on Put a mini frig in the living room big one in garage Use paper plates (lol) Do the remodel in winter as long as no outer walls are comming down Take out, eating out. A dishwasher can hook up to laundry washer outlet as well a garden sink. Make a poster board with the new kitchen plans and keep looking at it during construction-this will pass lol!
