| how to lose potential customer The other night, i called direct tv after our discount for comcast expired and bill went up 15.00. I told the lady who answered i wanted just to get some prices for tv and internet. She said she would have to send me to someone else for internet but could set me up on the tv. I again told her I did not want to commit to anything just wanted to see if i could save money. So she gave me a good price and then said let me set you up. again told her no. she asked if i had a credit card with me. i said no did not need it as i was not signing up tonight till i talked to hubby. She said i needed to put down 9.95 to keep that deal as an option before it ran out. I told her if we decided to go with them it would be in the next 1/2 hour and i was not putting down money for something i might not take. She then put her super on the line. He said i needed to save the offer by putting down the money. I said no. I should have hung up at that time but i hate being hung up on so i try not to. He said if i decided to not get the service they would refund my money. I told him no and that i had told the first lady and thanks but that was all i needed. Tonight I get a call from direct and the guy asked "are you going to get the service with us? " I said no and he hung up without another word. I was thinking of going with them as dd and bil both have it an like it. Cheaper. Can not sign up for contract right now so decided not to get it. Now may not later. Very aggressive and rude.

| Eww how horrible! I'm with you. I don't mind paying a little bit more if the service is better. They sounded like a used car dealer or something! I have a suspicion that when they put on their manager, it really isn't, just someone else.

| Wow! I'm so sorry you dealt with someone like that. I have DirecTV (got it when I moved into my house back in June). When I called, I talked to a super helpful and nice lady. It was a really good experience. If I'd gone thru what you did, I would have gotten something else just based on principle. I hate pushy sales people...you don't need to sell me - if I want something, I'll get it. Sheesh lol

| I am sorry you had a bad experience too. We've had Direct Tv since they first came into our area your experience is unlike anything we've ever experienced with them, however I know the market has become so competitive since way back then. I don't go for high pressure sales either. It's such a turn off. (That's probably whey people always ask for Mike when they call....he's so gullable..)

| RUN from Comcast!!! I HATE them, my Internet bill keeps climbing and climbing I pay three times as much for my Internet with them than I do for my Direct TV with movie channels, 3D package and NFL ticket!!! I have Direct TV in Jacksonville and AT&T in Knoxville.

| I just got my bill for my cable today (CableOne) & it went up $15.00 as well. What ever happened to the days when the prices went up by a couple of $$ . I saw on MSN last night that cable would be going up as they are going to start making you have boxes for each TV in your house , to unscramble the cable as a way to keep people from tapping into your cable. Why should I have to pay for others who steel cable ? I PAY my bill, in full & on time ALWAYS. I'm about to be done with cable |

| What is the average that you all pay for cable and internet? I'm just curious as to the different pricing here in Hawaii. I pay about 123. including taxes for HD DVR cable + showtime + HBO + telephone service + High Speed internet. My hubby wants us to change because he doesn't like it that we can only record 2 shows at a time and you HAVE TO watch one of those shows when they are both recording.

| We have what comcast calls digital preferred. No hbo, cinemax, etc. We have 1 recordable dvr on one tv. we also have the highest speed internet they offer. The internet speed was most important for dh. We pay 113.00. that is with a double play discount. If we go down in the cable it will take us out of the discount so it will cost us more with less channels. so staying with them. We tried at & t for a year but dh liked the comcast internet better though i liked the cable better with them. Direct said 80.00 approx for what we wanted. My bil said they were aggressive when he ordered but he took the package so they did not seem mad at him. It just infuriated me how they acted. They would have had customers in every home on our lane (4 homes all family). I had heard their customer service was one of the best not so sure.

update: they just called me back trying to "tell me about the great deals they could offer". I told them i was not interested in a 2 yr contract and after the aggresive manner and how i was treated the other day i more than likely not go with them when i was ready to. He apologized and said that was why he was calling. He started talking about deals again. I asked if it included a contract he said yes a 2 year one. I said nope not interested. Said to call back if i changed my mind.

| I usually do not mind a contract very much cause you can get a good rate. In fact, one reason i was interested in Direct was because they would give me a printout of how much each month would be the whole term of contract. But because i had to quit my job, we do not know what the future holds financial wise. Right now, we are treading water. While we are paying our bills (some on budget plans), we are cutting out a lot and there is not as much food in the house, and we have had to change our lifestyle. The next thing to go may have to be cable or internet. If we switched to a contract at this point then have to cancel, we would still have to pay a lot of money. Right now we have no contract with comcast so if we cancel, no problem (except i might go crazy at home all day). Our only options are ATT, Comcast or Direct. It has only been the last year or so we had a different option other than comcast. Still aggravated and will be for awhile. Next time dh may call.
