| @@@@@ Why Did My Computer Get So Fast??? @@@@@ My computer is suddenly whizzing like it was brand new! It has been so slow, hard to type on with the touchpad not working well, the keyboard so unresponsive I've been wondering what I could do to reset defaults or something. When typing, certain letters just sometimes wouldn't show. It will probably get that way again as the keyboard and touchpad problems happened once before. I just have DSL - don't think I even have the superfast DSL. I've been getting some type of broadband warning every month or so and have had to do a system reset via the software, sign into the DSL website & click-okay a reset. Soon I was back to being slow on the internet, slow opening programs or even just opening a picture on the Desktop. Yorkietalk typing was getting to be very hard, had to hit the keys really hard and just wait and wait at times for windows to change, Spellcheck or similies to come up or go away. And I do the Windows 7 System Tools Tune-Up daily, sometimes twice a day. Today, not knowing what else to do before I went to Norton PC Check-Up phone support - I normally just use Sony's VaioCare & the System Tools Tune-Up as I said - I unceremoniously unplugged this thing and unplugged the DSL cord and unplugged the DSL modem's power. I went out with Tibbe and came back in, replugged and waited. Restarted everything and now everything is really fast again. YT is fast, can type really easily. Does anyone know what happened?

| Have you always unplugged everything? With my DSL when you do that it resets everything. I will tell you that when mine went slow, I would reset, and before long it would slow again. It ended up being that my modem was going bad. A new modem fixed everything and I don't have to reset it now. Could be that?

Would a bad modem make just typing online really hard to do or could that be I need to reset - or whatever it's call the drivers - for the keyboard and/or touchpad? I search for updates a lot but there have been none. In Windows 98 and XP, I reset/reload them all the time but in Windows 7, I'm suddently not sure how to do it. Just seems my laptop keyboard isn't as sensitive as it once was even after it got much much much better since the DSL reset. It's always something. Sigh.

| I had all the same issues when I had DSL with AT&T. Switched to Comcast and never had one problem in the year or so I've been switched. I had so many bad modems with DSL, just one issue after another

| Where I am at you can rent them. Then the DSL company has to fix it for free. So when the modem goes bad they come out and replace it at no charge to me.

| How much yearly to rent, if you don't mind my asking? I might be something I need to look into.

| I think I pay $3 or $4 a month. The rental saves me from having to pay a service call when they have to come out. Mine isn't AT&T but I am sure they have something similar.

| I have cable and was having those same issues. It does seem to be resolved today though. I didn't do any resets, just virus and malware scans which didn't find anything wrong. Maybe it had something to do with that storm?

| I did a full scan too - nothing but tracking cookies found. That's when I just pulled the plugs on both my computer and the modem and started over. I could barely type on the keyboard and I could hardly get a whole word to type out. It's still not 100%. Probably need a keyboard driver reinstall but am scared to try it! Has anyone ever restalled their keyboard drivers in Windows 7. Do you just uncheck it and restart the computer like the old days?

| Thanks. I went there. I can't find the computer checker or scanner. Searched the Windows website and nothing came up. Maybe if I type in "Scan my computer". Trying that.

| Ok, I'll try to find it. Maybe it was only available for Vista. That was what I had when I ran it. Do you have an anti virus?

Vaio Care scan and System Tools Tune-Up fixed its current problems. I finally got the guts to go into the Device Manager and, having previously tried to find updated driver only to find none, just Uninstalled it and restarted. Driver automatically reinstalled just like in the old Windows! Seems to have fixed it for now! We'll see if it stays good for a while. I also have Norton PC Check-Up installed and it finds problems and for $4.99 I can call a tech and get help. If it comes back with the keyboard slowness, I'm going to do that. Boy, it really really is fast now. I remember from the old days, uninstalling a driver would really speed up the whole system, way moreso than just a normal restart would - even if it were just a printer driver or something. Sure is whizzing now. Thanks for your input and help. Hopefully it will stay good for a while. Or, I've typed so much on YorkieTalk, I've worn this laptop keyboard out and am going to have to have it repaired!!! Could that happen in just over a year? I got this computer in June, 2011.
