| Decorating and such, help me!!! Ok so I have a house, I will be moving in on or around the 5th of October. My mind is resigned to the fact that this is what I have to do; however, my heart can't help but be a little saddened....ANYWAY, I am a do-er, I don't sit and wallow, but I have to be busy in order to avoid caving in to emotions that are heavy on this heart.... Sooooo, my new house: Living rm is 18x12 - white walls and dark wood trim, picture window and hardwood floors. Kitchen adjoins the living room dark wood cupboards, white walls, chair rail, 12x12 3 bedrooms, 1 will be pink (for my babies), and I do mean pink. 1 will be very light lilac, and 1 will be light blue. Bathroom, small....white walls, I need help with colors that go together, light yet soothing, for kitchen and living room... Money is definitely an object that is a bit out of reach so any and all websites, magazines, ideas, pictures etc., of things I can do to decorate my new "home" would be helpful...pleaseeeeee I am working with a blank canvass...and have not even purchased furniture yet...so I am open to any and all of your ideas!!!

| Do you Pinterest? It is a great way to get visual ideas, and be able to keep them organized by creating boards where you can come back to later to remember what you were thinking.

| The hardest part of all this is finally realizing that change is necessary, inevitable, to maintain your own self. You have conquered THAT initial step. THAT takes courage! Now you move to step two...."re-establishing lynzy".....THAT is the part that takes strength! Aint no step for a stepper, lynzy! You have taken a giant step, A STEP FORWARD, NOT BACKWARD....that is commendable! And where are you now??? In your OWN home!! DECORATING it just like YOU want it done....you are now master of YOUR own life....you do as you please, when you please, IF you please! You come and go as you please.....and now you get to decorate your new house however you want! This is going to be so much fun for you and "the babies"!!! And with all the super talented, crafty people on here, encouraging and offering suggestions for great fun ideas, you are going to do just fine! CONGRATUALTIONS AS YOU STEP OFF INTO A WHOLE NEW ADVENTURE IN YOUR LIFE!!! |

| I really envy you!!! You have a blank slate to work with, and a whole new life ahead of you It might help you to go to Home Depot or Lowes and pick up some paint color cards. Bring them home and play with them, visualizing what each color you like will look like in your house, your light. It's such a personal thing, but I love a light butter yellow, super light sage green, and light lavender. I painted my house all in bold colors and now I want to change it to lighter tones, but I would have to buy new furniture and that's not happening anytime soon$$$$. Have fun, take your time, and just remember that this is YOURS!!!!

| When my brother's trampy wife ran off with another man and left my brother a TV tray, a lawn chair, and a sleeping bag, I went up there and re-did the entire house when he was out of town...he is a pilot and he told me I had 2 weeks to make him a completely new interior...the only stipulation was he did not want anything frilly and no flowers! So I took my contractor and we re-painted the entire house.... I took my Faux Finishes paint book and had A BLAST!!!! His study has "leather" on the walls, which was soooooooo much fun doing!!! His den has ancient Greek temple looking finish on the walls....I even did a crack in the wall with a dove feather!!!.....with Greek mythology art on the walls. His master bedroom is light blue with dark royal blue velvet drapes that hang ceiling to floor, and royal blue/gold velvet bed spread and tons of decorative pillows (which was the only thing he hated!!),,,master bath a little darker shade of blue with a 4 foot tall statue of a nymph by the huge walk in shower.....His kitchen I painted a light dove grey and put in all stainless steel appliances......I am getting all fired up to get my hands on sombodys credit card and do all this again!!!! There is soooo much you can do lynzy!!!! |

| I personally like earthy tones. My new apartment has been super fun to decorate. Our color scheme is a realy pretty pale mossy green that I hand mixed myself, ivory, warm brown, a neutral beige. Got a new bedsrt to match these colors. Ivory couch slip with dark stained furniture and dark/light green and beige accent pieces. I can say for me personally mirrors and live plants make a house feel like home, with lots of little diy projects. Pinterest is great for that.

| Congratulations on your home purchase!...I'm sure you'll have so much fun figuring out what your style is!..Go slow and try not to worry to much! Over the years I've found myself hating a color once I painted a room. I loved the chip, but when applied to the wall, I hated it. Recently I started reading about paints and the undertones they all have. The undertones will affect the color dramatically, I had no idea about this concept. I thought red was red, blue was blue and gray was gray. For example, gray can have undertones of blues, greens, purples, or browns.......Blue can have undertones of gray, green and purple. ...Whites can have any number of undertones from yellow, brown, blue, pink, green etc. etc. I got so confused that I just looked at B.M. popular paints and chose from those. It worked for me because the colors where muted which I liked. This is their lists.... Paint Color Schemes - Our Favorite Paint Colors - Designer Paint Colors This explains some about undertones.... Understanding Undertones = Color Success - Sensational Color I learned a lot from Maria's blog too.... Colour is Context | Maria Killam This talks about stained trim and wall colors..... Best Wall Colors for Stained Trim | Restyling Home by Kelly For other paint and decor talk I go to Gardenweb forums....It's better to google your gardenweb searches and include the word "gardenweb" in the search words. The search feature on the gardenweb site is terrible...... That Home Site! Forums - GardenWeb This is a great site to look a pictures. You can search by style or room. You can even search by "pink bedrooms" or "white kitchens" and it will show pictures of these. I like seeing actual pictures for inspiration.... Houzz - Home Design, Decorating and Remodeling Ideas and Inspiration, Kitchen and Bathroom Design I know this is a lot I hope it isn't overwhelming. Just browse around and take your time and have fun! Good luck!

I have been living in a house full of Mission style furniture (Stickley) with very light beige walls...this is really his style cuz he insisted on the furniture...thats pretty much it... I'm not sure what my style is, I love pretty! don't mind florals, ...I love all colors...thats the problem, I thought I wanted bold like a teal liv room, bright yellow kitchen etc., but realize that my fashion sense will soon say..."what were you thinking"....I'm thinking neutral something with pops of something...not dull and boring...oi this isn't going to be easy...I have no idea...so get your plans together!

| If I were you, I'd paint at least one wall lime green. It's a happy color. Add a splash of hot pink and some zebra curtains and you're done. Seriously, our dear friend Jodi has a fantastic eye for design, ask her to show you pics of Megan's room that she did. She is good. Enjoy the new place! Sounds fun!!
