| Considering a new addition So an opportunity has presented itself for me to get an AKC chocolate lab puppy in the near future. I've always loved these dogs and have always wanted one. I've been considering this for some time now and would have actually gotten one before the yorkies if it hadn't been for my son's aversion to large dogs at the time (he'd been around his cousin's lab mix who was out of control and constantly jumped on him and basically attacked him). I do have a full household with 2 yorkies and 4 kitties, but I've been surprised by some negative reactions I've received when discussing this with a few people. All my babies are just that, my babies. Each and every 4 legged member of my family is spoiled and doted on. Everyone is fully vetted. My home is clean and smell free. Is there something wrong with getting another dog? I'm curious as to why people think this is too much? Growing up, we always had 2 or 3 dogs, a cat, bunnies, ducks, hamsters, fish, birds, etc. I know many people that have multiple small dogs. Is it because I'm considering a large breed? My BFF's sister who manages a vet's office has 2 pits, a chihuahua, and 6 cats. When you walk into her house, you'd never know she has any pets! I guess I measure myself against her, like as long as she has more pets, I'm OK. LOL Anyway, I know adding another family member would be a lot of work, but they are such wonderful dogs and I have always wanted one. I guess I'm just putting my thoughts in writing here, but what are other's opinions?

| Hey, as long as it's not going to be too much work or stress for you, why not? You'd be giving a sweet baby a loving home Labs are just the BEST!!!! Those with negative things to say are either jealous, or they have never known the love of a dog. Good luck!!

| oh my he is adorable . i wanna kiss his little chocolate face. hey i have 3 dogs 2 cats and yes it is a lot of work. i get those comments sometimes too. my dogs and cats are better taken care than some human children. if you want another dog and you have the time, money, to properly care for them and it sounds like you do . then go for it. bring the little guy home. |

| Oh my! What a cutie! I don't think I could pass tht face up. . At one time we had 4 outside dogs, one cat, and 2 inside dogs. I think as long as you are caring for them and providing what they need, it is your decision and no one else's. And don't let them say big dogs and small dogs don't work. I had a Great Pyranees and he was awesome with my Yorkies. So I say if you want a lab get one! Btw, our former neighbor had a black lab. I totally LOVED her!

| I've never owned a big dog as an adult and I have to say I've always wanted one. All of my siblings own large breeds. Actually my brother had a weimeraner with his yorkie, and they adored each other. Naturally, the yorkie was in charge. My oldest sister has a black lab and my other sister has a yellow lab mix. I think labs are such a great breed. There is something about the chocolate labs that I have always found particularly appealing. I will think on this for another few days before commiting just to make sure it's not just my biological clock ticking. Well, I'm sure that's a large part of it, but at least this one won't need a college fund! And you know, my animals are taken better care of than some human children, too. They're definitely more spoiled! Then again, it's really more about what I get back from them.

| Adorable puppy. I agree with everyone else that the only thing that matters is that you have the ability to care for this dog and the rest of your pack.

| Oh my goodness he (?) is a little doll baby!! If you are able to do the work and support a new puppy financial I would say go for it! Labs are wonderful dogs, of course with a bigger breed and smaller breeds you have to teach them how to act and treat the lil ones, but it sounds like you can do it! I would go for it!!!

| I have a Lab & a Yorkie! My Yorkie loves my Lab! Duke (Lab) is a 90 lb, 9 year old man. I seriously see Duke roll his eyes at Yoshi sometimes when Yoshi starts his crazy puppy play. It's too cute! One of my best friends has a Yellow Lab puppy (almost a year old). Yoshi & Brody LOVE each other! But we can't let them play unsupervised. One time Brody (Lab) had Yoshi's whole head in his mouth! And Yoshi has scratched Brody's nose enough that it bled - just a little prick, but still. Brody doesn't realize how much bigger he is than Yoshi. And Yoshi doesn't realize how much smaller he is than Brody. Here are some pics of Duke & Yoshi last weekend. The size difference is too funny

I was almost wondering if it was better to get the lab first, let her mature, then get a yorkie. If that would be the case, I'll have a LONG wait before I ever bet a lab. Then again, this has been a stressful week. My BFF's mother passed away on Sunday while I was there and the funeral is tomorrow. I just returned to work yesterday from a 3 week medical leave. That may be why I feel like there is too much going on right now to bring another family member home. Also, prior to my leave, we were on crazy OT hours. I had actually completed a foster application for a yorkie rescue right before the mandatory OT hit. Once it hit, I decided not to turn the application in. I worry about being a foster failure, too. I'd want to make sure my hours are truly stabilized before getting another puppy. I may wait until the beginning of next summer. Then again, I may feel differently once this week is over! I appreciate all the encouragement and will update with whatever I decide.

| Opinions are just that - opinions. Everyone has different limits. I love dogs, but I personally couldn't handle that many pets at this point in my life. If you can, then I say go for it! You really can't go wrong with labs, they're such great dogs! |

| Who can resist a face like that?! Lab puppies are the cutest ever! Well, next to Yorkies, of course Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with having a lot of pets. IF the family/person can commit to taking care of all of them the same way they would take care of a single pet. My Lab has Stage 3 Melanoma. He had surgery & is currently getting radiation and DNA vaccines. But we know that he isn't going to be with us for much longer. I didn't even consider getting a Lab puppy. First of all, I know that our family would always compare the new pup to Duke. And Duke could never be replaced. Secondly, I couldn't imagine myself trying to raise/train a Lab puppy in the same house as a Yorkie. Labs are big & they have a lot of energy. Even though I'm a stay at home mom, I know that I would not be able to constantly supervise the pups. I would be afraid to leave them alone in the house - even separated in their own areas. But that's just ME. I'm not saying it can't be done. I just know that I wouldn't be able to do it. We decided to get another Yorkie instead. She's coming in a few weeks. After getting Yoshi, we all fell in love with the breed. Good luck making your decision. I'm sure you'll know when it "feels" right!
