| Bridge over Ky lake fell last night A barge with 20 people on board hit this bridge last night, knocking out 2 long spans of it leaving only the two ends..there was 4 cars on the bridge when it was hit but luck was with them, the first car missed going off by 1 or 2 feet when he realized what was happening, and got the other cars stopped in time no one was hurt even though portions of the bridge fell onto the boat..this was 15 miles from where i live and we cross this bridge every week

| Woah! That is really something. Thank goodness no one was hurt! Now with that bridge out is there another way to cross or is it going to be a huge hassle? That can't be something they can fix quickly, is it? yikes!

| I'm so very glad nobody was injured. At the same time, I have to wonder who was 'manning' the barge at the time, and how they couldn't have known that it would definitely not fit under that bridge. Did it have some sort of mechanical or electronic failure of some sort? I would think the barge operators certainly would have known that bridge was there and avoided it or taken an alternate course? It wasn't put up over night. Last edited by YorkOfTheShire; 01-27-2012 at 01:42 PM. |

| Unbelievable and scary! I am so glad no one was hurt. Can you imagine being on the bridge in a car when that happened? Wow.

| Well, from what I can find online this is indeed a ferry bridge. So...ermm..what happened? I can't find that info anywhere. lol I'm such a curious-nosy person. Clearly the portion of the bridge that is supposed to allow clearance for these ferries and barges...didn't move it's booty in time. I wonder if it was a mechanical malfunction or a human brainfart? |
