| Lets talk teeth! I recently went to the dentist and had a nice cleaning- of course I am on a manual floss twice a day now. Well I just have one of the string flosses- they are so hard to use! My mouth is kinda small too , its hard to get in the back! Have you guys ever used the stick floss? I need something that works!! I know someone has some tricks... or maybe it gets easier!

| I have a water pic. It is so much better than floss. I use it every morning, usually at night and I carry real string floss in my purse. If you use floss all of the time,my dentist told me that you could end up pushing food deeper into your gums. This has happened to me and it can be very annoying. I prefer the water pic. |

| I've never been a committed flosser. I know, not good. But I am 40 years old and have had a permanent bottom retainer since I was 16. That made it a pain in the butt to floss. Well, the darn thing finally broke a few months ago so the dentist took it off. Since then I've been using Plackers to floss. Love it! Now I floss once a day. My hygenist is going to be so pleased when I go for my next cleaning. She always said they looked good before but she's going to be even happier now!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Dental tape is so much easier to use than floss, it's very similar, it just easier to hold and use. I also have a water pic, but I don't think it does what floss can do, but for stimulating gums and other things it's great. My new favorite thing is TePe Plastic Interdental Sticks TePe Plastic Interdental Sticks. I have a small mouth too and it's difficult to open wide enough to get the back teeth, the sticks work great for that or if you hands ever get stiff.

| I floss 10x a day. LOL Im not kidding! Its kind of an OCD... There was a kind of flosser sold by Walgreens that I liked, and when I ran out, I went to CVS and they didn't sell that kind so I got Plackers. I don't like them, they are too flimsy. Try the brand from Walgreens. I think it's called DenTek. I overfloss and am causing receding gums... but I can't help it. I hate when it feels like there is food b/t my teeth! Yuck! I never had a cavity until 2 years ago I had to have a tooth pulled bc it had a cavity in the middle of it, that I was not aware of until the tooth cracked. Then I had to have another tooth worked on, root canal and crown. The one that cracked I had to have pulled and I now have an implant.

| I could have sworn she told me to only floss once a day... bc of recession. Oh man I let the hygienist use a water pic on me once. OUCH!!!! Never again!!!! Oh it was terrible. I was bleeding the rest of the day. It was horrible. I'm sorry! Maybe Im just used to the floss or something. My broken tooth did not hurt at all.... weird huh? I mean I was shocked when I bit down on an animal cracker and it just broke. I went to the dentist and they blew air on it and everything and nothing hurt. Even they were shocked. Usually it hurts because you expose the root to air and it's very sensitive. When they pulled my tooth, it hurt like anything though for WEEKS afterwards. The pulling of it, they put me under, so I didn't feel it, but my whole face felt like I was punched hard, it bruised up around my jaw. They then packed it with bone graft material and for weeks particles would fall out and I would crunch down on them. The implant didn't even hurt at all either. They prescribed me some valium, I took 2 then went there... I felt completely fine with that and Novocaine. When it was over I said to my fiance (who went with me and waited) Wow, that was fast... like 10 minutes and it was done! He was like 'uuuumm... no... more like 90 mins!' I guess Valium makes time seem to disappear so you are not traumatized. It makes your memory kind of skip time ... cool huh? I never knew that.

| Dental tape, huh. Hm that looks interesting! I am def going to try that and also the plackers. A water pic looks neat but it also expensive. It does sound useful tho! I just recently went to the dentist. I haven’t been in a while, the last time was when I got my wisdom teeth pulled out- and I went just for that reason. At the time the dentist didn’t say anything to me about my teeth so I figured I was ok. Well Dh wanted to go get a cleaning, it was like 39.99 for exam, xray and cleaning. We made an apt and went. I knew I was in bad shape bc of the tarter, and also I could see my gums were a little red. This dentist told me I have Gum Disease, a big cavity that needs a root canal, and all this other bad stuff. He made me feel my freakin teeth were going to fall out of my mouth!! He didn’t even clean my teeth!! He then gave me a bill of $4,950!!! I was so upset, I went home crying! Dh told me not to worry about it we will get a 2nd opinion. Well we were lucky enough to have a friend Carlos have a dentist friend. Carlo’s whole family goes to this dentist in Newport Beach ( for those that do not know, this is a really ritzy area by the beach) Carlos said that he can call him and see if he will examine me. The dentist said not a problem, I made an apt. He began to tell me I wasn’t in that bad of a shape and the previous dentist said. He said I def need a cleaning and he wants to take care of that cavity. He also said he doesn’t think he will need to do a root canal. I asked him if can give me a quote, and he said not to worry I know your DH is in construction and we can trade for him doing work at my house. Man what a relief! He cleaned my teeth and took care of the cavity, he filled it with the same color stuff as my teeth… not sure what its called.. compound? He said my gums were already looking better. He said I have a couple small fillings he wants to take care of but he gave me a 6 month time period. This guy is amazing! He was so nice and thoughtful, the staff were so nice and understanding! I went in feeling insecure, but they really made me feel better. He also gave me this kit to get my gums healthy again. Its 60 Count Box along with a spray I spray on my gums! It is amazing how good my gums look! They are perfect pink, all flat an healthy!! I am so thankful, and blessed to have had that done! I sent him a Thank you card as well. Dh is going to his house on Sat to look at the work he wants done. I think I will tag along so I can how him how good my gums look!!

| My root canal and crown cost me - $2800 (I had no insurance) I had a broken tooth removed - $1000 and I had 2 small cavities filled for $300/each. Plus 2 sets of cleanings & xrays in 1 year, $90/each. So in 1 year with no insurance, it cost me about $4600. The next year I got insurance on my own and went on my fiances insurance. I got my implant which was $4400, but I only paid $450 for it. I will now make sure I go to the dentist every 6 months because I want to keep my teeth and gums as healthy as possible! They are sooo much more important to me than I thought they were.

I thought the same way as you, until I went to the dentist! LOL, they are the only teeth we have so we have to take care of them. I do my gum treatment 2 a day and brush 2 a day along with flossing!!
