| Does anyone have thyroid problems? I've had hypo-thyroid for a little over 10 years. Well my levels were checked & they were so low they're not even in the lowest range. I have & usually have had symptoms of feeling sluggish, tired, various appetites & weight changes, etc. etc. It causes lots of things to go wrong. I've also been Dx with anemia & vitamin D deficiency recently. I can deal with all of this fine except for one thing-my hair is breaking, like really breaking and starting to thin & even fall out. I'm so devastated. I probably sound so superficial, but I've been crying & avoiding public places since I really noticed a few days ago. It's not terrible yet but I'm afraid to brush & wash it. My hair has always been thick & healthy, even when I dyed it frequently a few years back. My doc sucks & I'm waiting on my insurance to start in Jan. to see a decent one. Just wondered if my thyroid could cause this or if anyone's heard of or experienced it. And if my 'numbers' are low, would they put me on a lower dose of meds? Hopefully someone can share an experience, even if they want to pm it, that's fine.

| Yes, I do believe that is a sign of a thyroid problem. I have a friend who is on meds for thyroid and I believe she had the same problem. However, once her meds got regulated she has been fine. It is very important for you to get a good doctor when it comes to your thyroid. I will ask her tomorrow if she has any suggestions on what you can do. She has dealt with her thyroid for a long time.

Luv my 7 Furkids Donating Member | I too have hyper tyroid. I believe if your tests are low they will increase your dosage. You should have it checked at least once a year. I take vitamin D also. Once you get your thyroid working your hair should stop breaking. |

| awwww I don't think you are being superficial at all! Its hard to see yourself change and not know exactly why. I'm sure with your medication conditions you've seen yourself at your best and worst and your hair was always something you liked about yourself, gave you self confidence, now to see it breaking and thinning is definitely traumatic for you. I would find a new doctor if possible and talk about options with meds and maybe something to help stop whatever is drying and breaking your hair. In the meantime, Paul Mitchell makes a volumizing mousse that is makes your hair sooooo thick it's incredible! I can't even use it because I have thick curly hair, but really try it!!! Also there are REALLY cute 'fake hair' extensions like ponytails and buns that are adorable. Can you wear something like that for a time until your own hair gets back to healthy? (((HUGS))) You are not superficial!

| Awe, thanks. Well I went to pick up another relatively new med & asked the Pharmacist if it could cause hair loss/thinning. He's new & doesn't know me but said "but your thyroid can". He said once it is regulated it will grow back, but it's so far off the charts that I know this will take several months. I just pray it stops in the meantime. This is a fine example of my insurance through disability failing me. I couldn't get into a doctor for months & then it was a PA who really seemed to not care at all about anything. Another reason to thank God for my job & it's benefits.

| I'm sorry to hear that, but glad you have overcome it. I've heard/read that the more your thyroid is out of control the greater chance of developing cancer. Not sure if that's true, but it does weigh heavy on my mind.

| I have high calcium levels and an overactive parathyroid and am waiting for a referral to an endocryonilogist. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm freaking out that I may have a tumor. |
