| Saw a dead GSD on the road today. :( I was driving, had just dropped Jackson off for his dental surgery, and saw something on the side of the road. From a glance, I thought it was a deer. Then I glanced again and was like "is that a dog?!" so I stopped and did a u-turn and sure enough... a gorgeous German Shepherd. It was dead, as far as I could tell - did not even see shallow breathing. But I called Animal Control who said they hadn't had it reported yet, so thanked me for calling. It makes me REALLY sad to think that someone probably just hit him and left him there, and did not even make a phone call. http://chazhound.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif I wanted to cry, it was just so incredibly sad. What a gorgeous dog, too. I grew up with a GSD so I have a soft spot for them anyways.

| Oh that is terrible. Poor thing. I just don't understand people. Why wouldn't they stop and at least try to help? You did the right thing. I know it is so sad though.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh girl, I'm sorry you had to see this . I am sensitive in this same way, and I really feel it whenever I see a dead animal on the road (doggie, squirrel, deer, anything). It just breaks your heart, bc you can't help but wonder what happened and if they suffered. It's so sad. You honored him by being the kind of person who stopped, and turned around to check on him.

| That is so sad. I don't understand how someone can see an animal suffering like that an not call animal control, or the police, or anything like that. My friend's Great Dane jumped their fence on the 4th of July because someone in their neighborhood shot off fireworks while the dog happened to be outside pottying - and was hit by a car. No one reported it, and my friend found her sweet dog on the side of the road outside, hit by a car. No one had reported anything, the dog was wearing ID tags, and barely breathing. Of course you would know if you hit a full-grown Great Dane - it is so sad to me that someone would have hit her and never reported it at all. I'm sorry you had to see that, but I am glad you were there to call Animal Control and make the report. Maybe they could find the owners and let them know.

| How horrible I hate seeing animals on the side of the road, especially pets.

Thor's Human Donating Member | Oooooooh, that's so sad. How terrible about the Great Dane, too. I can't stand stuff like that, so I always make up a story to make myself feel better... like, this dog probably jumped into the road to save a little kid, who will be eternally greatful, grow up to be President and pass a law that all dogs have to be treated like kings, with lots of long walks, belly rubs, and steak.

| To a true dog lover, the sight of one of those miraculous animals completely still, unbreathing and totally and forever lifeless is a pretty shattering experience. It marks you for a long long while. I hate that you had to see it because it hurts so.
