Thor's Human Donating Member | Good housewarming gifts? I am going to a housewarming party tomorrow afternoon, I think. I haven't seen these people in quite a while. Any ideas for a fun gift? The husband is into Tai Chi, chess, and math. I don't know the wife's tastes. They are kinda bohemian. Also they are in a New York apartment, so have limited space.

Thor's Human Donating Member | I'm near a fabulous bakery, so I could bring a custom cake, or maybe their specialty cookies? I'm always watching my diet (with limited success), so I always feel a little weird bringing an unsolicited dessert to someone's place.

| Hmm....Maybe a low-maintenance plant in a pretty pot? I dunno, I suck at this I usually give Home Depot gift cards to new homeowners as housewarming gifts, but if it's an apartment they may not be into that. Good luck

Donating YT 500 Club Member | This link might give you some ideas, both good and bad. I kind of like the idea copied below from the article. The Best & Worst Housewarming Gift Ideas Revealed - AOL Shopping "My husband and I were newspaper editors at the time, and a co-worker brought us a housewarming gift that was both thoughtful and personal to us. We were given a tray of wooden blocks that had words on them. You set this tray on a table in your living area, and people can re-arrange the wooden block words to create sentences and thoughts. As people who worked with words every day, we found this gift to be special and geared toward us. The "Words Cubed: Poetry For Your Table" is simple and inexpensive but fun." --

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | I was thinking a little basket that they can use later in their home. You could fill it with basic household items, picture frames, a gift card, fresh baked bread/sweets, a nice card. Good luck!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Whadidja get?? I missed the time frame, but I was going to suggest an expensive candle - such as Diptyque or Lollia or Voluspa. I don't know what you wanted to spend - but a luxury candle is so deliciously indulgent - and not something I'd really treat myself to. So if I rcvd it as a gift - LOVE. I love the Lollia bc it's so pretty on it's own, and you could reuse the pretty glass: Lollia - Candles I love the Diptyque bc the design makes me giddy - it's so simple, modern, and retro all in one: Diptyque Candles & Diptyque Room Sprays I love the Voluspa bc of the earthy smells; the design is a bit more "heavy", like boudoir-ish: Voluspa Candles - Entire Voluspa Candle Collection Can't go wrong w/ a bottle of wine or nice champagne either!

| Whenever I went to housewarmings in NYC I brought something that could be consumed- wine, cake, a pasta basket, etc. I know how living in NYC apartments is and the last thing I ever wanted was more stuff to find space for. Now that I am going to more housewarmings outside the city, friends buying houses, etc- I usually make up a basket- like buy a big mixing bowl and put different kitchen items in there (towels, measuring cups, spoons, etc.) or buy a towel basket and put in a luxury candle, a nice throw, a bottle of wine ,etc.

| I am so boring... I usually buy a plant, a hanging ivy or potted peace lily, or a couple candles, or a bottle of wine and 2 nice wine glasses. Im sorry I was so late with this and you've already gone. What did you end up getting?

That's me too! I cant stand clutter and even living in a house the last thing I want is more stuff! Then, the other year I moved into a house a third (or less) the size of my previous home. While the house is tiny the yard is huge. Wine & plants were the absolute best housewarming gifts I received!

Thor's Human Donating Member | Okay, I hope I didn't shoot myself in the foot... I ended up getting a wine aerator, which is this nifty little thing you put on the end of a wine bottle, and it decants your wine as you pour. No more waiting for hours for those 30 year old Bordeauxs to decant. I also got them a wine bottle holder that will keep your wine chilled to the exact right temperature. This one might be something you put in the closet and re-gift in six months... but I do think they'll get good use out of the aerator.
